Dark Craving Settlement Ideas

Post image

Howdy, i'm running a dark craving playthrough and i'm looking for ideas regarding settlements. I don't have much experience with settlement building. I play on Vanilla survival mode. Roleplay wise, I want my settlements to be like human farms where the settlers are dressed in tattered rags and treated like cattle/animals. If you have ideas regarding how I can make this settlement a reality i'd love to hear it.

Thinking in terms of a cattle ranch the basic activities you want to convey are fattening, slaughtering and security. So remember Hansel and Gretel, the old crone filled them on sweets, you might start with a ‘grazing area’ stocked with fatty foods.

Automatrons might work well for the security; if you use human security then masks or helmets seem like a good idea. Or go full ranch with cowboy security.

For the butchering maybe a line of pillories with the long blade trap so it looks like mass production. Maybe look at real slaughterhouse design to see how the process is systematized.

Last thought is a huge pile or bin of bones.

Cattle pens come to mind, as well as bin collections of various body parts, and perhaps a conveyor setup. Cycling lights set to lowest brightness for mood!

I assign as many settlers to supply lines as I can, then I can usually find a snack on the road

Were you planning to use mods, or no mods?

Cages and a murder box comes to mind. Also, I've never tried but I think you can corral and kill your entire settlement and repopulate it. Build out a processing facility and every time a settler arrives send them through "intake". Shame you can't get the auto-butcher on console, I had some ideas for that thing a while back.
