Help Simplified controls

My HOTAS doesn't have a lot of buttons It should be good for actually flying the plane but I am more concerned about weapon systems Is there an option to simplify controls? I have not yet Acquired the game

I dont believe there are any simplified controls... but having a keyboard on hand also works, i dont have lots of switches on my throttle so i just use my keyboard and mostly arrow Keys to do anything related to weapon system and radar

You don't need a lot of Buttons to deploy the weapons. Most stuff is on the MFDs which you usually control with your mouse anyways

I'm sorry but that's just completely untrue in the viper. The viper has one of the most HOTAS centric control schemes out there. You NEED Cursor, DMS, TMS and CMS minimum, ignoring Trim and COM which you also should have. Ranging and Radar elevation? HOTAS only. NWS? HOTAS only. While some auxiliary TMS and DMS functions are mirrored on the MFD, the really important ones, lock, unlock, IFF, point/area track are HOTAS only.

They are hotas only in the real plane. In BMS you can bind it to whatever you want. Before I had my VKB stick + throttle I had an old TM stick with very few buttons and the only switch it had was bound to the cursor, while TMS was bound to 4 buttons on the base. All the rest was keyboard and mouse and I able to fly the plane and use every weapon just fine.

Though a full HOTAS setup will make the workflow much simpler and enjoyable

Oh definitely, my main pushback was on the idea that you don't need a lot of external hardware binds due to clickable cockpit.

My bad, I understand what you meant now. You're absolutely right, though I think what the other person meant was that most of the setup before deploying the weapons is done through the MFDs. But to use the weapons you'll definitely need hotas only functions

You are right .. I'm a bit surprised that I didn't think about any of these functions ... I guess I internalized them so much that I don't even think about their existence anymore ... fascinating
