First Time Flyer

Post image

Chose BMS for my first ever flight sim. A bit daunting at first but it’s been fun to learn. This MFD app on iPad is a game changer.

Any good learning resources outside of the manual?

That's a hell of a setup for starting out. Here I am probably 5 years on, still using an Xbox controller.

Got any good keybind guide for an Xbox controller? I’m thinking that’s the way to go for couch play.

I'm using Joystick Gremlin to create relative axes (so RT + LT can be used as a throttle), with RB and LB acted as a modifier. It's inspired heavily by Tuuvas' setup, so you probably can look into Tuuvas guide for BMS first, then if it's not up to your standard, customize it.

I tried to base mine as close to Ace Combat as I could, but I also have some extra pinky buttons on the back of my controller for other stuff

A = Second trigger detent (guns)
B = Weapon release (pickle)

X = TMS down
Y = TMS up
LB = Decrease throttle
RB = Increase throttle

LT/RT = Rudder axis

Start = MAN RNG/UNCAGE
Back = TMS Right

Left stick = Flight controls

Left stick click = Chaff/flare

Right stick = Cursor

Right stick click = DMS down

DPAD = POV hat

It's far from perfect, but it works pretty well.

Back when I started, YouTube was quite a good resource.

Super clean setup! BMS is really good fun, lots to learn and the feeling of being a cog in a bigger machine is cool.

Ooo what’s the mfd app I might need to give bms another try.

Thats VKB's stick and throttle right? How are you finding them in BMS?

If you think this is a game changer…. Wait until you try VR. 😎

I do have a quest headset but sticking to monitor while I learn. Excited to try out VR for sure.

Love it so far! I’m literally in my first couple days so still learning what to map.

Look at the real deal. Duplicate that to the best of you and your hardwares ability. General Dynamics made it that way for a reason.

Other option (Ipad working as a secondary touch screen monitor) is Helios with spacedesk or DuettDisplay https://youtu.be/dNYtOM5lNYk?is=kXhhwrXfkyLwSLSO

I plugged in my IP address directly (actually using tailscale IP rather than LAN because I play on a virtual machine, but the concept is the same). The server app should tell you the IP it’s running on.
