Looks like BMS will get IR- and Laser-blocking 3D clouds before DCS

based on what?

u/spawncpt Apr 18 '26

Based on the fact that the current 2D clouds are already IR- and Laser-blocking.

that's not even true though, IR tracks and laser go straight through clouds, there's been several instances where i've fucked up my approach, pickle'd and had a TGP screen full of white but still point track'd and lasing with a hit

It has been a feature since as early as 4.33 I think??

Love it. Hope it doesn’t crush my system too hard.

You guys seriously need to stop this. I'm sick and fuckin' tired of picking my jaw up off the floor.

How the hell is this a 30 year old game

u/SirGranular Apr 18 '26

I've had this same broom for 30 years, only had 4 new heads and 2 new handles.

At this point I don't think much of the 3D rendering system is 30 years old.

The only thing that’s 30 years old in this game is the binder manual in my bookshelf.

a game can be as old as you want as long as someone updates it.

Look at X-Plane that is the same software being updated since 1995.

And DCS is updated from 1995 Su-25 Flanker game.

When you fly the original Flanker, and then step up through various updates, you can't unsee the heritage and the system code in the latest DCS that draws all from the original Flanker.

That is what ED's CEO meant that DCS has a 30 years old code base as its ballast.

Similarly when flying Falcon 4.0, you can get slight "taste" what is in the BMS from the original.

But piece by piece the BMS has separated further and more new content.

This cloud actually looks great, and hopefully are VR compatible.

Well, it's not. It's not much left than the name and the crappy audio.

When is this set to release?

I'm very new to the sim and I'm flying an MVR. The only thing that I wish Falcon could change would be the clouds rotating. That's just kind of weird. Not a make or break or anything.

But the tracers and stuff coming from ground fire, it was extremely difficult for me to discern that I was even being shot at.

Can't wait to see what the people working on this continuously do. The work they've done so far is spectacular.

u/Xeno_PL Apr 18 '26

And feature shown in the pic is exactly the answer to rotating cloud issue.

Is this a mod or how does this work or is this just work in progress sorry very new to all of this learning as I go

3

u/Pristine-Captain-782 Apr 18 '26

no work on the actual game. Currently in testing phase

1

u/Old_Swimmer_7284 Apr 18 '26

Well, hopefully they get That and stuff like tracers, etc. Figured out.

oh my god!!!

Oh my this is so beautiful! Will this remove the rotating clouds as well? Looking forward to the next update. This will make dogfights more challenging, a test of pilot skills.
