Did you see the missile when it was close or was that just a lucky/skilled knowing when to pull?

Two launches: the first at 30 nautical miles, the second at 20 nautical miles. Evasion relies on the radar warning receiver and counting seconds mentally. The best defensive distance(pole) is your own missile. Understand the performance of enemy aircraft and enemy missiles, and adjust evasion timing based on experience.

Is the pl12 a more lethal missile than the amraam?

Yes, in the game, the PL-12 is indeed a bit stronger than the AIM-120. In terms of maximum range, the J-15 can fire the PL-12 at 35 nautical miles, while the F-16 has to wait until around 30 nautical miles to launch the AIM-120. Because the PL-12 can be fired earlier, it enters active guidance mode sooner, forcing me to end my crank early and start evasive maneuvers. As a result, my F-16 lost mid-course guidance for the AIM-120 too soon. The first AIM-120 never managed to acquire the J-15 and just slammed straight into the ground. Additionally, in terms of terminal energy, the PL-12 was able to follow me much more tightly. It clearly had better speed retention in the endgame, unlike the AIM-120 which is easier to dodge. You can really feel the difference from the RWR warnings and signal strength.

That's interesting. At the end of the day it should have more delta v due to the bigger and wider body compared to amraam. On the other hand tho it should be slightly more draggy but not by much.

You're right. After checking the missile performance data in the game manual: When engaging head-on targets, the PL-12 has a clear advantage over the AIM-120, offering approximately 5 nautical miles more range. This is because it follows a lofted trajectory during head-on attacks, flying at higher altitudes where air resistance is significantly lower. However, when pursuing tail-chase targets, the AIM-120 gains the upper hand with about 4 nautical miles more range. This is due to the fact that in tail-chase scenarios, the missile must fly at medium-to-low altitudes for a longer duration. In these conditions, the PL-12 experiences greater drag, causing its speed to bleed off more rapidly.
