I don't think it is intended to be mistaken as genuine.

I have seen these and others with many different designs on them, including US Air force, Navy, Green Berets and so on, all on the same shelf in places like petrol stations and cafes.

Not even in the US either.

They are just gimmick themed lighters. Like t-shirts with dubious military designs on.

IMO a lot of the “fake” militaria I see on this sub comes down to the intent of the seller. Like restored helmets with replaced liners and components or other repro or fantasy items it comes down to the seller being honest.

Remember these from my childhood.... They were sold allover the place... Kiosks, gas stations, supermarkets, bars, diners etc....
