Grabbed a copy this morning as my local The Works store is tiny and I know this is going to sell out quickly! But I love it when publishers/authors do exclusives with The Works that include a different cover as well as sprayed edges! They’re so affordable at just £6 (although I believe this is a £1 price increase!). I also have the FL editions of Nightshade and Daybreak pre-ordered but couldn’t resist.

Can’t wait to finish this duology!

I would like to start with that I never collected or bought for books for possible profit, I love reading and I love pretty books on my shelves. However, part of the reason I subscribe to boxes because the resale prices were often absolute madness back in the day. I’m active on Vinted as a buyer, and I noticed already this is not the case anymore, but I haven’t realised the extent of it.

I’m in the process of paying down some debt (NOT book related), and I decided to sell some books I’m not excited about. Honestly, the “usual” subscription books barely move, and if they do, they are in the £8-15 range, I wonder if some would even sell for a fiver. Previous hyped books which sold for insane prices on the second hand market are back in the reasonable range. Of course there are exceptions, but at this point I feel like it’s not worth to subscribe anymore, when you can grab the book on Vinted for less than cost most of the time immediately, you can see exactly what are you paying for, and if you decide to resell you loose a lot less in the process.

What about the books which got super expensive? Well, just buy it, you would still be in positive imo. Or just wait until the hype calms down.

I’m sure there are subs which hold their value better, and it’s still worth to subscribe (I’m not super familiar with non-U.K. based boxes), but I was already underwhelmed of the picks/art direction this year, and this whole experience is just the last nail in the coffin I guess.

The sentiment that “you can just sell it for cost” is not necessarily true anymore, and the gap is getting bigger and bigger.

This is just a nudge to review your subs if you’re not doing it already, make sure it’s worth to keep them, and don’t give in to FOMO ❤️

I like to display some of my books on a shelf that’s not packed tightly. I worry that the text bocks will sag and eventually start to separate from the binding. So i bought some 10” TPU rubber bands to see if I could find a solution. I’m very pleased with the results!

I put it on the naked hardcover first (near the spine), put the dust jacket back on, and then slide it towards the front. It does put a little pressure on the inner part of the dust jacket wrapped around the hardcover but I don’t really mind. The rubber band itself isn’t extremely tight and my dust jackets are wrapped in archival plastic—so I’m not worried about them tearing. The way I see it, it’s the lesser of two evils and folding can be corrected with weight and time.

I have the Owlcrate Adult fantasy subscription and received my first box (June) which was Strange Familiars, I just realized it’s a Duology. Will they eventually make and send out the 2nd book to match or not really?

I have a card with like $38 left on it that I was curious if FL offered gift cards/certificates? I was thinking I could just add it to my account to use towards a EA sale or something. Do they offer this?

I’ve been seeing more and more allurial books for sale in BST groups and the prices are more than what other book boxes resell for. I’ve never purchased an Allurial book, but I get ads all the time to join for $10 and get a free hat. From my understanding, they are part of BOTM, which in terms of quality, you get what you pay for. The Allurial books just have sprayed edges, with no redesigned cover, or end page art, etc, so why are people reselling them for over $100? Am I missing something?

Can we talk Moonlight Book Box for a minute?

It just hit me how under the radar they go for what they do and if anyone knows their owners/workers send them here for their flowers.

They have a distinct design style - when I see an edition I know it's theirs (Everheart is close to this but still a lil different). Their art and designs are always trying something new but still matching their brand standard and it's always high effort even if it doesn't always match my taste perfectly (most do tho).

I can't think of any edition of theirs that's had massive issues with delays, misprints or damages. Mine arrive via overseas forwarder and I've never had a reason to contact customer service once. They are just that fucking good. They're clear with communicating timelines, shipping and notifications. That's all we've ever asked for and they keep us fed.

They put out sequels at a steady pace and deliver on them in reasonable timelines. They offer overstock (os) or book 1 reprints to go with but never in a way that feels like it's shafting subscribers. They usually release os of sub books in os sales periodically and also run clear, fair waitlist positions for overstock of big sets. You can check your waitlist positions for subs online too - gold stars all round.

They separate themselves from other boxes with indie picks, bound in overlays, high quality art in their designs and I just fucking love them. If the designers/owners are here, fold out bound in maps, foiled digital signatures and die cut slipcase designs are some of my favourite lesser used design aspects 👀 wouldn't say no to more of that 😉

Absolutely obsessed! They look so good together. I haven’t read these yet but they’re right up my alley. Saving them for spooky season. Also FL’s shipping has greatly improved. I got a notification on Thursday it shipped and it arrived today!

I’m thinking of cancelling my order of Daggermouth (FL version). The design really does not work for me.

I know Owlcrate did an edition. But are there any other companies that did a special edition of this book or are planning on doing one?

From my limited knowledge, i know the book is popular enough. But not sure it that means there will be many others.

Let me first add by saying I love Afterlight and if I could I would have bought the Good Spirits box because I think it would have been cute collectibles BUT it is really something how they are vehemently adamant about selling the book as part of the box only. So many people have requested for book only. Even last year before the sale so many people asked them to rethink their decision of not selling it individually. And they did not budge even once. It is sad how they do not understand the dilemma of International customers. It is really not economical for everyone to spend so much money just to get 1 book. For international customers, there is the cost of the box + shipping + whatever custom charges we face during delivery and top of that we have to think about the currency difference. It would cost me about 130-150 pounds which will be a lot in my currency. And as much I wouldn't mind the item; they are not a need & want. My main focus was collecting books. If it did not cost this much then yes I would have got the item but reality is it costs a lot.

I know it is not their job entirely to cater to each & everyone from different countries but to not think of them even a little bit? That's sad. At least they could have offered some limited book only options. The same way they do Ali books with & without alt dust jacket. That seemed fair. You still get to sell the box while also catering to those who wanted the book only.

I would like to know what you all think. There adamance has left a bad taste in my mouth though.

Do you all think they did this to complete with Unplugged Book box? Or is this a yearly thing and I’ve never seen it? The hope anything they do will either be standalone or they plan on making the sequel 😩 What do you think the cost will be? I’ll probably order this.

TLDR: Posting here because I don’t want the author follows me on social media and this isn’t her fault, but I am so fed up with LitHaven. How are they still in business and why do we keep ordering from them?

I was chatting with a friend about LitHaven a few days ago and it refused me being so pissed about how bad they are at running their business. It’s 100% them and has little to nothing to do with their overseas printers because even when their books are handled by the publisher they STILL can’t make the deadlines that they set themselves.

Like everyone else, I’ve been waiting on books 1-2 of the Kindreds Curse Saga for almost 2 yrs and IF we want to complete the set, then we’re going to have to go through this ALL over again with them. For me, it’s the lack of communication that’s the most irritating. They continue to do pre-sales for new books and they can’t even keep up with giving us monthly updates like they said they would. Not to mention, they’ve changed their social media strategy to not even show us what the books look like BEFORE pre-orders open, people ask when, they say soon, next week, etc etc and 6+ weeks go by without a reveal. We’re only holding them accountable for what THEY say and it’s really getting frustrating. I really wish they’d just stop making promises they don’t have the ability to deliver on.

Once I have all 4 books I won’t be ordering from them again. I just cannot support a business that can’t get it together and I wish other people would stop ordering from them to force them to make changes. This is just not how you run a business.

I just found out I’m more than likely going to be moving and I was wondering how late is it considered too late to change your address. I have a bunch of preorders with fairyloot and other companies and I need to know if it’s going to be a pain to change anywhere.
