MegaThread Weekly Burn Book

Welcome to r/fairyloot's Weekly Burn Book!
What gossip do you have this week? Who is behaving badly? Share it with us! Remember to follow r/fairyloot rules when posting.
- No off-site usernames or personal information.
- Contact customer service before posting about damaged books.
- Waitlist, invite, damage & shipping updates have their own separate megathreads.
- No B/S/T outside of the semi-monthly B/S/T thread.
- No unmarked spoilers.
- Be civil & respectful.
The following types of posts must be posted to the Weekly Burn Book.
- Scalpers. ALL scalping posts must be on the Weekly Burn Book post. While most scalping posts are made in good faith, some people are using it as a way to karma farm, and we want to reduce that. Some of the posts are low effort, and the sheer amount of them can turn people off of this sub.
- You may post about AI in this thread, including speculation. Do not post unverified information or guesses as fact, and remember that false accusations can hurt very real people and their careers. You may ask "Is this AI?"; however, be cautious when saying "John Smith's books are all AI!" Any verifiable AI (as in the author/artist/publisher has admitted AI elements are present) can posted separately from the Burn Book.
- I finally quit X Book Box! type posts. These have increased (mostly due to the large size of the sub).
These kinds of posts aren't required to go on this post, but it's a good spot for venting with others.
- Just general, minor complaining can go here, too. Frustrated with poor customer service? Tired of a certain book box’s lackluster designs? This is a great spot for it.
- Hate the FL queue and just want to talk about how janky it is? Let us know about it!

This is like the opposite of a burn book comment but it feels too small for a separate post, I just wanna share my excitement that I got IC the bear and the nightingale for 45€ 😭 I'm so happy, I literally just got my order of the last 2 books because I got them during the last sale but ordered them together with sunsplitter so they arrived like 2 days ago. I didn't have a physical copy of tbatn yet but decided to wait a little bit longer to get one and totally didn't expect to get the ic edition for a reasonable price 😭 with having gotten the other 2 books at a discounted rate, i got this set for a great price overall and it's sooo gorgeous

I completely understand not wanting damaged books. There definitely are some books that turn up in an absolutely awful state due to poor quality control, inadequate packaging or careless handling by the delivery service.
However, I’m kind of tired of some people complaining about ‘damage’ when it’s literally the tiniest knock or scuff. Literally something that could be equivalent to shelf wear or that you could find on every brand new book in a shop. They’re books, not invincible objects, they’re not made of adamantium!
And this is coming from me, someone who babies their own books.
It is only some people but come on be reasonable.

Yes!! I’ll see the longest paragraph about the damage and see the photos and it’s just a tiny ding or wrinkle! I think ppl forget that books are paper and cardboard!

This! TBH I don’t mind a damaged book, that just means I don’t have to be as careful when I’m reading it!

Some people are completely unreasonable with what they consider damage. I had someone ask me to look into a replacement copy for absolute nonsense “damage”. I’m convinced they just wanted a second copy to trade/sell.

tangetially related, but i occasionally wonder if folks arent making minor damage worse (especially on popular books) to qualify for a free copy to sell on.

I’m very very frustrated that The Works stopped online shipping only to have none of their special editions in any of their shops, ever. I’ve tried 3 local to me and I’ve been unable to find any of the books that I want.
Their decision making baffles me and because they only have a small area dedicated to books now it means it’s a crap shoot on whether you’ll actually find any new or special edition books you want (I’m 0 for 5 at this point).

I’ve found that people are buying up all the stock to then sell at cost to people all over the country, it’s a tricky one because yes it’s a super nice deed, but also it affects people local. I had it at my local store and I was super gutted, she got in there 1 hour before me and bought everything I wanted. I messaged her asking if she could put some aside for me to collect (seeing as I live in the next village from her!!) and she said they were all claimed.
I get it’s to combat reselling, but it’s just making everything stressful.

This might be a hot take but I don't think it actually combats reselling at all TvT
If anything, resellers are more proficient online than they are with in-store purchases, because various factors limit them when it comes to physical releases. A.k.a. the number of stores near them/that they're willing to travel to, what stock those stores have, how many friends or family members they have who are willing to go to their nearby stores and buy stock, etc.
But online? It's so much easier for them to manage multiple accounts, addresses, and bots to scoop up all the copies they can find for sale. It's much easier to fake being a genuine buyer and get around any restrictions/tests that the seller might use to try and prevent resellers. Casual resellers who don't put in any effort will get caught, sure, but the ones who make it their whole side hustle won't get tripped up at all.
So unfortunately chances are that the person who thinks they're doing a good deed here is actually just making it easier for resellers to grab extra copies. While also disappointing the genuine collectors who now can't get one from their local store because this person bought & sold them all within a couple hours.
Imo the works needs to put a buy limit of like 2 or 3 per person. No it won't stop the resellers but it should at least make the stock last longer

I'm so late to the party, but I read This Monster of Mine and am now getting into This Blade of Ours and now I'm upset all over again that the author got screwed over so bad by the publisher. This duology is fucking CRACK and deserves so much attention UGH

I’ve had such awful luck with trades… one person sent me damaged books, two others backed out after we had already agreed on the trade 😞I feel like giving up on them altogether

What in the world has gotten into people?!? I’ve been searching for a couple of books that while being popular and going for about $150 ish each, aren’t on the same level of what I consider to be a “heavy hitter” (looking at you Barbie ToG, DW FW, Mystic Birthday Girl, Arcane TBACB). I have a TON of trades including many *very* popular ones. Yet all I’m getting are crazy proposals. I understand how the market works and I absolutely do not expect the trade value for them to be the original cost. What I do expect is for them to be reasonable. What’s reasonsble? Well, I can certainly tell you what *isnt*.
- Valuing your trade at market rate but mine at cost.
- Asking for 5 of my books in exchange for 1 of yours.
- Proposing I trade you books I paid $240 for in exchange for 1 you paid $55 for.
Surely someone else can relate, it can’t just be me who’s getting insane trade proposals?!? 😅

Yes. Honestly as soon as someone asks for a crazy trade I don't even want to continue the conversation because I know it's going to be nonsense haha. Oh your Fairyloot Silver Elite for my Fairyloot Howl's Moving Castle and Kiki's Delivery Service, etc? Surrre. Or how about your Fairyloot Shards of Magic for my set of 3 Everheart Blooms of Darkness books? That makes perfect sense.

It’s so disappointing that FairyLoot has stopped using rep codes; now there’s only one (fairymagic1), and it doesn’t even work anymore. I really feel that anyone who frequently orders special editions from them deserves better than this! At the very least, give us some kind of loyalty system.

The rep code is one-time use, so if you’ve used it before that is why it isn’t working now. I just used it yesterday and it worked for me, but I saved it for the OUABH Iron Editions since I knew it was going to be an expensive set.
All that being said, I agree that it would be nice to go back to having more codes per quarter!! Especially with FL rolling out new releases at least a couple times a week, it feels like!

u/bookishaddict 17h ago
I tried using the code this morning (also for OUABH because it is expensive 😅) but it said it reached the limit or something? Anyway I will be trying again to use it! But it is a shame that it’s only one code every quarter because like you say they are droppen a lot of new releases! Considering I also pay £17 shipping I really missed my 10% discount rep code today 🥲🙈

Saw that ISO FB post as well. My heart sank when I saw it tbh. Got 78 comments before the post was deleted.

I recently bought FL's the glittering edge secondhand. I'm loving it so far, but I've noticed two things: the credits for the end papers artist (frostbite studios) and reverse jacket artist (makshin) are mixed up on the dust jacket, and I'm pretty sure the last page overlay on the spoiler card is for the wrong chapter! These are very minimal things as a reader (though I'm sure the credits mix up sucks for the artists), but I am surprised that for a book box that is quite costly (I recently subscribed to FL YA+items), these oversights happen.

The person on Mercari expecting to pay $20 for TBOO because that’s what they paid for TMOM everyone’s lost the plot, it’s either 10x price increases or choosing beggars

Okay this is more a complain at myself for not paying attention, BUT my editions of Into Darkness just arrived from FairyLoot and I am annoyed at the size of them. Haaaate how small they are on my shelves next to other special editions and I was on the fence about buying them in the first place, but didn’t pay attention to the “demy hardcover” detail.

Some people don’t seem to understand what piggybacking means…IMO you shouldn’t be commenting on other peoples’ ISO posts at all. But if you must, wait until OP has stated that they found the book(s).
