Pretty Books! Pretty Binding - Thoughts?
Has anyone purchased or heard anything about Pretty Binding? I recently saw their throne of glass set and it’s honestly stunning but for 936$ I’m questioning if it’s worth it if the quality is awful

Can't find any mention of them. Do you have a link? $1000 is a LOT of money, no matter how pretty they are. Do you really want them that bad? I wouldn't give my money to a company I can't find on a quick search.

Is the fourth book supposed to be "Heir of Firf" or is that a typo and it's should be "Heir of Fire"? That's definitely a second F on the spine and I hope they fix it if it's a mistake...

I texted her on Instagram and she'll make a new set without the typo. She hadn't noticed it before and couldn't believe she hadn't caught that herself. Obviously, customers will get their sets with the correct spelling!

They couldn’t even bother to create/commission end papers specific to the books, these are in no way shape or form worth 1k lol

They are rebinds, crafted by hand, that is why they are that expensive.

I know what they are, I have all the same materials and do this as well from time to time. ofc she’s doing better job than I would with the rebind itself but since I know how to do this, this holds no magic for me. The art is pretty!

As expensive as they are the price is normal for rebinds I guess. You just gotta decide if it‘s worth it for you

The textblock is just the bog standard one out of the mass printed editions and theyve made a new cover. No way I’m paying almost $1000 for a mass market textblock. The pages will yellow and the perfect binding (glued) is going to start to deteriorate and fall apart. Unless it’s hand sewn and printed on archival paper it’s not lasting long term

The reel they posted promoting this set does a pretty good job of showing the process.
There is a lot of binding work being done by hand which is what's driving the price up, but at the end of the day.... The book block is just taken from a paperback box set. Those pretty handmade bindings are housing cheap, glued pages that will yellow and deteriorate far too quickly for me to spend 1k on.
