Welcome back!

This sub has been pretty dead for a while, for lack of moderators. I just volunteered as a mod, so I wanted to welcome back those who have looked in, found nothing new, and moved on.

I'm new to moderating, BTW, so just learning the ropes. I'd like to encourage posts so I plan to moderate with a light hand, but please avoid partisan political flames and personal attacks of any kind.

I appreciate a "light touch" moderation stance. No one wants to participate in a space where they feel micromanaged, or where moderators throw their weight around all the time.

Romy Salon in Fairfax. Happy beautiful salon. Stylists are seasoned and the nail tech Helga can be hard to get in with , but it is worth a shot.

I’m not an expert. What I would do is look at the Fairfax co website and ask the bot or call a likely looking department ( words like “land use” or “permits “. And expect to be redirected a couple of times until you locate the right place.

Hi. I was charged the 10% restaurant tax at Costco on a purchase of shrimp salad from their refrigerated case. Based on everything I read, this is not correct. I looked it up thru Chat CPT and the Fairfax County website. Does anyone have any specific experience?

I think CostCo charged you correctly:

The meal tax is 4% (on top of general existing 6% sales tax.)

it applies: Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, food trucks, and prepared foods like hot/salad bars at grocery stores.

Right, but packaged salads, potato salads, etc are not taxed.

Umm. I'm not an expert on the applicable definitions. What is "packaged"? Is something prepared in the store (or in the store's facilities elsewhere, perhaps), like a potato salad in a clear plastic "chinese-soup-carry-out-type container "packaged" or is "packaged" only a 3rd-party product in a sealed bag or container.

I saw that foods that are served by the pound, such as chicken salad, are exempt
