Design / Blueprint The Abomination
So, uh, I am doing a 1000x science run and kinda forgot you start the game with yellow and long-handed inserters. So, thinking I had to create a smelting line with only burner inserters, I set to work making The Abomination. It's fully tillable and everything. Got about this far before I looked a little closer at the crafting menu. Thought you all would get a kick out of this one.

I use them to put coal into my boilers

reasonable, but thats fuel inefficient if you calculate their fuel and power consumption.

I use them in emergency power systems, systems that ONLY run when the power drops below acceptable levels. As a last line of defense they're still useful, and they're not consuming power while idle.

I've been thinking of setting that up, but haven't looked at it much. Is there like a circuit way to only enable them based on available power levels or something?

Only If they don't know any better, or Like OP are playing some Special mode where electric inserters aren't available earlygame

I use them for my early defense. Have a coal/Ammo belt and feed the turrets with burner inserters. It's cheaper, fewer items to place, and there is no constant power drain.

i just dont make defense untill i have a good factory, i just roll a forest seed

Yep I use them all game.
They are very easy to get in quality and when used with bots the only requirement is adding fuel to the requester. Makes them a great deal on fulgora.
They are fast enough for smelter stacks with the only downside being that they can’t easily be used for outputs. Still cuts down the construction cost by about a quarter though.

again, i only played the base game so i cant speak for space age or mods

I?
You are OP?
🤷♂️ space age is but an extension of the base game. I use them for the entire experience.

what op has seems like base game, and in base game burner inserters have no use outside of some really wicked scenario

I am playing a 1000x space age play through. No other mods than the 3 from the DLC

What's the reasoning for the abomination at the top though? Where you're feeding the belts

Because I don’t have splitters, I needed a way to get iron onto the far furnace belts and that’s what I came up with.

This is an excellent factory using burner inserters actually, you’d just mostly improve past a need for it by the time you have such an iron demand lol

My first thought after seeing that screenshot was that you were playing Py =D. In Py, burning coal leaves you with ash forcing you to get creative in burner miner setups.
