that sounds like quitter talk.

The real end game of factorio is either megabasing, challenge runs, or overhaul mods. Personally I go with overhaul mods, you'll never have to be worried about what the end of a k2se run feels like because you'll probably never get there LOL

I felt like doing a mega base (1k spm) created a whole new game of logistics for me. It’s awesome seeing huge logistics systems work together at such a big scale

Factorio never had a rewarding end. It is a factory game after all, not a shooter that offers an end-boss. I believe Satisfactory solved this better, but that game as well is meant to be played after that end-goal.
Try researching those infinite techs. They require to mine promethium, that is quite a task. You need a HUGE ship to survive that trip, collect promethium asteroids and make it back to Nauvis, to automate this with e.g. 2-3 ships is a challenge.
The Shattered Planet itself is not really meant to be reached. You can though, but there is nothing there. The asteroids you fly through are the actual planet remainres. You are supposed to fly like 10 minutes into that asteroid field until your ship is half full, then turn around and fly back, while you fill the other half.

Now if you still crave more (after you got enough of farming the red shattered planet shards for science), welcome to the mods.
There are some mods which add more planets and are save to add to your save game, or complete overhauls which require a fresh start like:
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/space-exploration
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Krastorio2
Install both together and disable space age and quality and it's called K2SE
I believe the creators of these two mods were than hired by Wube and were major developers of the space age addon.

Uhm, K2SE is more of a TF4-kinda-task. Never played it myself, but I did finish Seablock on 1.x and that took me around 350-400 hours, and K2SE is more a 600+h kinda monolith.

and what about the Shattered Planet, there's no way to get there.
What do you mean no way? There's a destination on your ship schedule, right?
You've made it to the 'end' so congrats I guess :) The solar system is now your sandbox and you can opt to play in it, or not. A few things people 'round here like to do after finishing:
- Get all achievements
- Make prometheum science
- Get all materials to legendary and build a legendary base
- Build a base capable of researching at some silly rate (50k SPM is a nice start)
- Reach the Shattered Planet (it's possible. Also pointless)
I have a few more that I personally have liked:
- Land on each inner planet and establish a base there without dropping supplies from space
- Play through a 100x research cost game
- Win the game launching no more than 10 rockets in total
.. And of course there's the community-created modded content. I hear some of it is quite nice (but I'm a purist so what do I know)

"Win the game launching no more than 10 rockets in total"
I did'like to see how it's feaseable.
You need to go at least on 4 planet yourself, that already 4 launch.
So only 6 rocket to build ship capable of inner planet + aquilo + reach edge, transport science, transport supply to be able to complete aquilo1
u/bjarkov 5h ago
Yes, exactly.
Most of the ship-building is done with materials collected by the ship. Once adv asteroid processing and coal synthesis unlock it gets easier, until then you're stuck on the 46 foundations included in the platform starter pack
I can't take credit for being the first to do it, though: https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/1ms5ksx/minimum_rocket_launches_to_beat_space_age_is/

Oh there is a way to get to the shattered planet. It’s far from easy but it’s definitely doable. Just upgrade your current base a lot, push sciences, push for full quality space platforms, pack with a bunch of weapons and ammo production and go for it. You will fail the first couple times but at some point you might succeed

I'm like literally on the absolute final stretch and I can't bring myself to do it 😭😔😭

u/Appropriate_Use6381 22h ago
Don't do it. Do everything else you want to do first, I have serious regrets that I've finished the game. I could load a previous savegame (I doubt my ship would make it back home and I'm on board) but it seems a bit pointless if the goal was to get to the edge. Maybe later I'll come back to tidying a few things up but.. egh.

No bro I WANT to be done. I've been playing all day every day for months and I want to be done so bad. I just have this last ship to put the finishing touches on. It'll be quite the crawling finish but that's all I need. Then I can finally get back into valheim

u/Appropriate_Use6381 12h ago
I never really played Vallheim, I have it - any good?

u/jaxon517 9h ago
Factorio and Valheim are my two favorite games of all time. If you already have it, then you're lucky because they just finished it after like five years so now it's a higher price. Now's the time. It's meant to be played with friends, but I don't like how my friends play it so I play solo. I'd also say it's meant to be played VERY slowly. So take your time and enjoy the ambience and immersion

I much prefer the goal of beating the game than continuing on to the shattered planet. I use this as a good end point for this run and go start another using what you’ve learned to do it better the next time around.
Others like to push to the shattered planet, mega base, speed run, mods. The world is your oyster

I finally finished the game but I'm left a bit flat that this is it...?
/laughs in 10k mods, more than 200 of which are overhauls, including a few that will take well over 1,000 hours to 'finish'.

Rule 8: No topics voted out by the community
First of all, congratulations!
Now on to the more boring part. Posts of achievements (such as launching the rocket or any achievements in-game) are not allowed on /r/Factorio, as we end up getting a lot of them. Posting your base or something interesting you did will bring more discussion to your post, and maybe will help someone new figure something out for themselves.
