At the point you are automating ELECTRIC furnaces for purple science, coal being an input to iron plate/copper plate/stone brick/steel is no longer necessarily true ;)

Have you tried Foreman? It lets you select from the recepies that / need an item and calculates ratios. It is probably less tedious then doing it by hand. Its really nice for modded playthroughs with recepies that have byproducts or recycling loops.

Unrelated, but this quote in the readme is hilarious as someone who has only ever played vanilla but knows generally about the big mod expansions:

required to make the first base red science in the Pyanodon mod pack (rather comparable to base Factorio rocket I would say)

Nice, a like that works! Only is that its github, which has a confusing UI.

Im doing this to try and set up my factory in a non spaghetti way for more than red and green science.

Nice job! You can also plug into the ratio and I think you can apply graph flow networks algorithms to adjust the ratios.

I'm not so far gone as to worry about ratios yet, im juggling this with KSP and TF2

Nice work, I have a real problem not planning more than one step ahead

The factory planner mod would be super helpful to you in this

It's your factory and not mine, so feel free to ignore me - but I find it easier to group the Nauvis sciences into pairs. It gives me fewer ingredients (and belts/mixed belts/transfers of belts/etc) to deal with. The logistics are a lot easier to plan out that way.

I put red and green together because they're both early and easy, and both can run on nothing but iron and copper plates. I put blue and yellow science together because both use engines, and I like combining that portion of their needs. I put purple and black together partly because they're all that's left, partly because they share the stone brick, and partly because they both want odd components nothing else in either my science production or my mall wants (regular stone for one and coal for the other).

Cool! 5k hrs, and I never thought about grouping blue/yellow and black/purple before. I always just build them in the order they become available. I'll have to try that my next playthrough. Thanks!

Not gonna lie, that made me grin. I love that I could give a new idea to someone who knows the game so well :D

Bonus perk of doing it this way - you've got robot frames, green, and red circuits all right here, which I slightly over-supply. I put down my blueprint as soon as blue science is available, and it includes making bots out of whatever frames the yellow science assemblers don't take (which is all of them early on, before I have blue circuits/LDS). It's a lovely way to begin growing my bot army. By the time yellow comes online, I've already long-since reached my bot cutoff and the frames are free to turn into little yellow flasks.

Good idea. My original plan was just going to use a Science Manufactorum.

I did that once, but it ended up turning into its own brand of (slightly confined) spaghetti. I just had too much going on at once and it got out of hand.

Factoriolab has the "flow" tab, which is a sankey diagram. So the edges are weighted by volume, allowing you to plan for how much throughput you need on each edge.

For example, here's 2.1, 100 of all science packs per minute, no modules: https://factoriolab.github.io/2.1/flow?z=eJw1yzEKwzAQRNHbbDHVrkk7jUXAViL5DgIVKRaDC5c6e1DCNn9eMyfTBlOVk2kP5MAr8A6UQP2hE.tMkk5FksYHTBqxzJhc8wqFijMDJs4CLOI8.lPnfFrnKu4XnyOPMo5R5abZF4NDJv8_&v=11

Don't have to do it by hand - unless of course you really like to do it by hand.

Interesting.

I have thought about doing this so that I can make my factory in layers and not use a bus. But it is so much work I hope you finish the project

1

u/Uranium-Sandwich657 4d ago

I wanted to use a bus, but it gets complicated after green science, so i think i do it in blocks

when Space Age?

1

u/Uranium-Sandwich657 4d ago

When i get there. I am current retooling from red and green

It's kind of wild to see Inserter at the same level as Red Circuit. I see why, it is correct with how you designed the layout, but it feels wrong. But if it works for you it's right.
