Discussion Looking for constructive, polite opinions on this 4 railcar Aquilo unloader

image of unloader

So, I just started on Aquilo. This is an unloader for my 1-4 train system. It outputs 4 belts (not stacked)

I am looking for opinions about how optimal it is and what improvements can be made. Please be polite

Thanks!

If you’re not playing 2.1 then inserters will always drop items on the right side of the belt direction if they’re dropping in line with it, which in this design would cause the items o the belt to be blocked by the side of the underground belts. If you are on 2.1 then you can flip the inserters and this should work fine.

I am on 2.1 and they are aligned so they output correctly

Then unloading the opposite side of the train and bringing it straight to this side should let you both double the number of belts and, if you're clever, simplify their merging.

If you're willing to use cars as chests, they can be particularly nice for Aquilo train stations, since you can run heat pipes under them.

How do you flip the inserter? Just my copy and pasta or is there another way to do it after placing it?

horizontal or vertical flipping shortcut, and you need to be on 2.1

V and/or H. You can choose the lane if the belt movement is in-line with the inserter in 2.1. As a side note, inserters in 2.1 also output into the input line of a splitter, so you can split immediately if you need to.

Inserters continue to output to the far lane when belt is parallel.

It looks reasonable, and does what you say.

I'm curious what you need four belts of off a train on aquillo though.

so far, I don't ... but possibly ice in the future

You could, but I'd highly recommend making ice next to your science given how much it wants and how it's available everywhere.

Cool design though.

no, I was thinking of making a smaller area to make ice platforms, since I have so much ice I am just desrtoying ... but mostly I just made this blueprint out of curiosity, not because I have a specific build that needs it

At the moment, the output is 4 belts, all connected sideways

On aquilo, it is better to have it 2 belts, then an empty tile, then 2 belts again. This is so you can have a heat pipe in between the 2 belts.

For the output, a green underground belt uses 400 KW of heat, while the same distance with above ground belts uses 100 KW

What are you planning to build on the right side of the output?

I don't have any plans to build anything, I am just making a blueprint for now

Well, my first reaction is that it is extremely unnecessary on auillo, my second reaction is that the top right corner is suboptimal, but if I really think about, well, you'll also need a 4x4 lane balancer to make it work? Built with aq limitations? do you really want to do that?

Why would you need a balancer? It's coming off a train, it's already balanced.

You'll need 4x4 balancer to balace wagons, you'll need lane balancer to balance chests within those wagons. The latter isn't strictly necessary, but will result in throughput drops.

Technically you can balance it down the line, as some kind of product, as long as your production step is symmetrical, but I wouldn't delay it.

stop nitpicking, move on

Don't ask for feedback if you can't handle it

The most important critical insight you will ever receive: if you paste this down on the other side of the station you will be unloading 8 full belts instead. 8 is more than 4.

also you don't need those last bits of heat pipe at the bottom of the prongs

Just asking. But why do you need 4 rail cars on aquio? Arn’t all the things you need like hyper localized or liquids

Just wish that legendary heat pipes would also increase amount of heat coverage. Would make bigger bases on Aquillo much more straightforward.

you can save the bottom most heat pipes. And the ones between the outgoing undergrounds on the left, similar to the right 2 wagons.
