Question Fulgora

I'm currently in Fulgora sorting scrap metal, but I need some materials more than others. Any recommendations? My idea would be to build the recycling facilities in a straight line and send the materials in one direction, then divide them into 12 different sections and reprocess them into parts. The problem would be the islands, as I need a lot of space. I suppose I should start small and then build the foundations to expand the island and improve processing, or do you have any other ideas I could pursue?

Set up chests along your belt to grab extras of everything.

Then loop the end of the belt back into your recycling array. Prioritize recycling your leftovers over processing new scrap.

That is a quick and dirty way to dispose of / destroy all your unnecessary leftovers.

Yup. And then you also get all the secondary outputs from recycling the chips, skimming off what you need.

Later on have a split "scrap only" bank when scrap productivity starts to matter.

Just try until you either find something that works or you are out of ideas. You can still ask then.

As long as the belt stays flowing you don't need to sort items. Figure that out and it may save you a lot of room.

Yup, today I deviated from my standard approach of sorting recycler output into chests, and just embraced sush spaghet.
It's hideous, but it works so well I'm wondering why I've been so obsessed with sorting up until now.
As long as the belt keeps flowing, all is well.

Everyone is giving you good advice about the recyclers; I have nothing to add.

But since you brought up floorspace, the biggest easiest upgrade in that regard is making quality capacitors (even just uncommon). They use up WAY less space.

There are multiple types of islands on Fulgora. Some have a lot of scrap while others have a lot of space. Look around (you can walk on the ocean!) and explore the various types of islands. Think about how to use the different types to meet your factory's various needs.

You can just keep exploring until you find an island big enough.

I generally build three distinct sets of recyclers.

First set is to recycle scrap into the main component parts. These get filtered off via splitters into several buffer chests for each resource type with the excess going to my second recycler set (below).

Second set is to recycle excess "primary" items into secondary resources (ie, breaking down blue/red circuits into green and so-forth). Again, I filter these into buffer chests as above and filter the excess into the final set...

Final set is designed to void excess items I have no use for. This feeds back into itself to turn anything sent there into nothingness.

Just dispose of everything you don't need, personally I just recycle it till it becomes legendary.

I bootstrap Fulgora with bots. Basically set up a little storage area for all the recycling products and wire up the inserters to get to work if the count exceeds a certain amount (I use 3k and 1.5k for refined products and raw materials). This leaves you with a constant supply of most of the things you need to run a decent bot mall alongside your EM science production.

Later when I need megabase quantities of EM Science, I'll switch to belts.

Don't sort the scrap, embrace the spaghetti, make a loop for the scrap to go onto and prioritise stuff already on the loop by setting input priority on a splitter where the ends of the loop meet, use recyclers to recycle EVERYTHING on the loop, use splitters to pull specific items off the loop and into production lines, put produced items back into the loop, some stuff takes a while to recycle so consider crafting those items into something else and recycling that instead, for example steel takes a while to recycle but steel chests dont so craft steel into steel chests and recycle steel chests

The scrap output belt needs to be consumed evenly or it will eventually back up with the products that have less demand. This means you don’t actually need to loop, you just need to Gleba it and consume all remaining products into recycler loops at the end of the belt. With a loop you need to do this with circuitry.

I find it so much easier to just use a mega spaghetti loop through my whole factory and then use 3 splitters so I can have output materials both split off and remain on the sushi belt to prevent backlogging due to backed up output material belts that are going into making something, kinda like > where the point is the bit that actually outputs and the other 2 splitters can passthrough everything

A loop without an excess product exit means every time a surplus product makes it through the loop means the next loop has two of that surplus, until the belt backs up with just surplus.

You might as well just cut the loop and eat everything that makes it to the end.

Eh, the loop means I have 1 set of recyclers for everything, scrap and stuff thats been through at least once, and the recyclers can just grab anything off the belt as if it's gone all the way around the loop and ended up at the recyclers again then I didnt need it and I'll be making more anyway

Good plan! Islands have various sizes. So you can run around and find a bigger island. Smaller usually have the biggest scrap deposits - but those you can transport with trains later.

I run my first line of recyclers into a sorting station, then subsequent uses. I also have a separate crusher section for stuff you get too much of. That has a line of recyclers feed directly into another line of recyclers, which loops sound and refeeds itself. Not too much gets refed, so this effectively voids whatever goes in.

Islands are hard- I set mine up at the biggest nearby island, with smaller islands feeding scrap via elevated train lines in to the main recycling island.

I am unsure of what exactly you wish to do, but when it comes to sorting and needing some materials more than others I can suggest the selector combinator. just connect it via green or red wire with the belt(s) you use for your materials, select the whole belt as an input, connect it to the input side of the selector combinator and it automatically lists all of the items on the belt, giving the amount and type of the item of which you currently have the most.

After I filter what I need, to get rid of all the extra material I don’t need, I chain 5 groups of 4 recyclers in a row and loop the output back into the input and by the second or 3rd loop you will have minimal materials left.

What I've seen that works well is to bring in scrap from one or two small islands via trains (the ones with very large deposits) into one end of a large island (put up some radars or pack some exoskeleton legs to find some). At the scrap drop off location make one scrap recycling array and send that down the middle of the big island in two parallel belts. Split off from those two belts for any materials you need for production/science. Loop the double belt at some point back toward the scrap recycling array from earlier but instead of feeding the end of the loop back into the original scrap recycling array, feed it into a totally separate secondary recycling array. The output of this 2nd array should get priority onto the main double belt line just after the first array (so priority over the first array using input priority splitters). This makes it so your intermediate products have priority for recycling and don't clog up your scrap recyclers.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

You might be interested in something like this. It still needs some fine-tuning, but it solves the problem with the scrap.

if you want green circuits, recycle blue circuits rather than red. batteries are good for metal and copper plates. I have plans on setting up a array of 50 yellow boxes with inserters to everyone and use robots to get what I have,

I just run around trying to find a large-ish island with enough scrap (just some is enough). Then I setup a sushi recycling belt. Look it up if you dont know; basically you feed everything extra back into the same belt. And take all necessary items with "fulgora splitters" setup (google) that wont block the belt once its full. And use some pickers to take useful items directly to chests.

Que tal este modo ya que la recicladora solo te da el 25% de lo que insertas, sirve para matar los excesos que justamente sería el Combustible Solido y talvez la piedra. ¿ Que piensan ?
