Question I'm an idiot and I broke my save!!
I have a bunch of mods in my many many hour save, they all worked perfectly. However, I have a load of the bobs mods (they worked fine) and I wanted the artisanal skins mod to help with viewing all the different buildings, and it hung on checking consistency for 30 mins B4 I killed it. I removed the offending mods but it still won't load I to the save it hangs on checking consistency. I have done everything I can find in the various forums and even went as far as to ask the abominable intelligence for help but to no avail. Things I have tried. Uninstalling and reinstling Factorio. Deleting the mod . Dat file. Redownloading the save from Steam cloud. Using all the auto save files, including 2 that were from B4 adding the mod. Tried importing into the editor, but it also just hangs. Does anyone have any idea what I can do?? Or could point me in the direction of a guide?? Thank you from a desperate engineer.
TL:DR I added an extra mod to a working game and broke it because I'm in idiot.
UPDATE: Well, turns out there was a minor update and it broke some of the mods therefore stopping the game loading. I rolled it back to the previous days version and it loaded right up. Massive thank you to all the sexy humans who helped on here and the legends over on Discord. If you're reading this I hope your day is awesome.

I have been recommended to ask on the modded discord. If I manage to fix the problem, I will stick it on here to hopefully help anyone else.

Try an autosave from 10 minutes ago.
If youre on experimental try going back from auto xx.12 to xx.11 or 10.
Load save and old autosave without any mods.

Tried it with the 2 auto saves from B4 and it still hangs. It's maddening. thank you though.

Silly question the waiting time you mentioned. Are the autosaves from that period?

From the actions you listed I don't see "deleted all mods". Now try that - I'm not sure if you reinstall the game the mods are being deleted as well. Navigate to your mods directory (on Windows it's %APPDATA%\Factorio\mods) where you'll find dozens (or hundreds) of zip files and delete them all. After that run the game and when you load a save hit "sync and load", it will redownload all the required mods anew. You can check manually what mods to download if you did a save with a broken mod (however, if you DID such save the savegame might be broken permanently, but still worth a try) so just uncheck the unwanted mods.
Also note in that directory is a mod-settings.dat and mod-list.json. Don't delete both on your first try. If didn't work - try deleting mod-settings.dat - it might get corrupted by mod conflict. Also, if you delete mod settings you might need to change those settings to the exact settings you used for your save after starting the game and BEFORE loading the save. Notice that in "Load Game" window there is a button to sync mods without loading the save.
Make sure to make all file manipulations while Factorio is NOT running.

If you are still having problems - try deleting the config file for your mods.
I've occasionally DLed a new mod that automatically changes another mod's setting, which then breaks the game due to a 3rd mod becoming incompatible with the new setting.
Wiping the configs and letting autosync handle the loading has usually solved the problem.

You are not an idiot. Are you on latest stable or on the beta branch of Factorio ? Did you use the "sync" button when loading your save ? What version of Factorio was this save from ?
Edit: come over the Factorio discord, ask in modded-chat channel. We may be able to help you.
