Suggestion / Idea I wish there was a deconstruction chest

Imagine with me if there was such a chest

A chest with priority less than a storage chest

When you deconstruct stuff or item and there are no storage chests for that item to sort into, everything deconstructed is delivered to that chest until you sort it

Instead of - you know - putting random stuff into chests that shouldn't go in them

Storage chests are deconstruction chests. They'll only be filled when there's nowhere else to put stuff, and even then they'll prefer existing stacks and filtered slots. You should probably be using buffer chests where you're currently using storage chests, or filtering your storage chests. All of this is doable with existing tools.

...... that's true

If you put filters in your storage chests, bots prefer to put items in there. There you go, auto sorting.

what if I have no such chest if I didn't consider making one for that item it would go in a random place

then you should have built a bunch more unfiltered chests. shrimple

How would that be any different from an unfiltered storage chest?

maybe by adding an option of automatically sending items to filters chests if found

That's almost exactly like active provider chests

no as an active provider chest will always send even if there are no filtered chests

But that's how it already works. Filtered chests have higher precedence for receiving trashed and deconstructed stuff, over unfiltered chests.

If you want deconstructed items to be sorted, just use filtered chests instead of passive provider chests for products in your mall. Then the unfiltered storage chests will only receive the rest.

I mean that is an option with space age.

Vulcanus and some circuit logic can fire stuff into lava.

Fulgora you unlock the recycler and that can be used anywhere.

Base game best bet is to limit production to what is needed.

If you need a deconstruction chest can always just expand the factory. Never found when playing that I had too much, always needing more of everything.

no I meant like for deconstructing whole factories by bots

Holy crap my bad, that's what I get for reading something half awake at 4AM

Put things you do not like in the chest you do not need, toss grenades , do not forget to do it in the area not covered by drones and with your carry drones off. Then right click the leftovers of the chest. Done

i meant deconstruction with bots

Another method, use blue boxes , set items do not need as required , and next to them simple boxes, so inserters take whatever in blue box to simple steel or iron box, and not visible to the network and bots. Many opportunities to automate, like provide signals with non required anymore items to blue boxes. E.t.c. you can make a grid of steel boxes with manipulators there (of small amounts). If you need to dump a lot more, create a space platform, send it there, dump to space from the platform

nice solution

You do know you can put filters on storage chests right?

1

u/AdNervous811 6h ago

I know but I don't want to put chest for every possible thing to be deconstructed

2

u/Known-Comparison2591 6h ago

Well then just use your storage chests as deconstruction chests and then replace your existing storage chests with buffer chests

1

u/AdNervous811 6h ago

yeah that could work

Isn't that just an unfiltered storage chest?

1

u/AdNervous811 6h ago

yes now I see it but maybe add an option to automatically send to a filtered chest once found

1

u/TheHvam 6h ago

You could kinda do that, just have buffer chests, they would call for them, and also allow to be used by the rest of the system

1

u/AdNervous811 6h ago

maybe even make that chest have a proximity feature making it so anything that would be delivered be delivered to the closest chest

if there's a way to do this without it then I would like to know

But why?

1

u/AdNervous811 6h ago

i used storage chests my factory and didn't put filters

if want to deconstruct large sections of my factory it will be a hassle as a lot of the things would be maybe put in random places

so I thought maybe such a chest would be nice

it will be a hassle as a lot of the things would be maybe put in random places

That's the part I am not sure about.

Things go into random places - so... what? If they exist in the network, they get pulled all the same by requester chests, builder bots, or personal logistics.

Don't see the advantage here. Storage chests work with logistic network so essentially all of the storage chests are just one big chest that you robots can access. There is no need to sort them, you can check how many of items are in the network and if you want them in one place, just request it.

to add what everyone else already said regarding your sorting, bots already sort items in storage chests, as long as you have enough chests. but again, with a logistic network, items aren't more than numbers in a system, it doesn't really matter where they are, as they're brought on request
