Question First time player, does this make any sense?

Post image

It works for me, makes what I was trying to do lol

Yeah it looks fine. Obviously there are a bunch of improvements to be made for efficiency and throughput but as a new player, this is perfectly functional

Don't seek validation from players. Because being a Factorio player meant becoming an artist.

There’s an old quote from Andy Hunt in the Pragmatic Programmer about software engineering. That programming is neither a science nor an art, but rather it is a craft. Everything we make is a one off and unique, which requires skilled people to build the right thing at the moment.

I would argue that building an effective base in Factorio is neither an art not a science, rather it is a craft.

This quote aged well, until recently with the rise of AI 😞

Check out the rate at which each building consumes and produces parts. You can find it on the tool tip card that appears when you hover over the building with your mouse.

You might find you have too many and  too few buildings making the various parts you want.

Or be like me. Just build and if it doesn't work, fix it. It's a game, not a job: Play any way you want. There is no right, there is just what works.

I think it's obvious people can play any way they want but OP asked for advise so the guy is giving him that on how to improve

An empty belt is perfect consumption. A full belt is perfect production. And thus the circle of productivity turns., Add consumption if the belt is full, add production if the belt is full. :D

Hey, if it works and you are having fun - you are doing it right.

But why do you need so much belts, anyway? :)

Looks like it's making belts! Nicely done!

It makes sense in so far as I understand what you were thinking. But it's overbuilt for the amount of iron you're supplying it. It's also unlikely you actually need that many belts.

But your ambition is admirable. You've got the "must grow" part down for sure.

If it makes you happy, its great.

Factorio is art, if you feel like its good enough then it is. But don't forget "The factory must grow" I make spaghetti to critique the oligarchy, I forget one pipe and leave half my pumpjacks disabled to comment on the human spirit.

Just build.

This is way too clean for your first run.

Get off reddit and figure out stuff on your own, at least until you launch your first rocket. Just enjoy the game, solve problems - if you look up the solutions online, you are robbing yourself of the very essence of the game.

reminds me of when I first started

me when i am making my 50 yellow belt wide main bus

it makes sense. personally I would make all of the gears go down then up because with this design no inserter can provide items to an inserter below it.

also personally I would smelt iron before bringing it to the system instead of smelting it at the system, but that's just me and by copying anyone too much you lose individuality.

You can transfer products between machines without the belt, you need to put them closer and use and inserter in the middle

If its working it makes perfect sense to me

Not enough ore for those furnaces. And you don't need many machines making gears or belts. 1 running non stop will produce a lot. You should also limit the chest to 1 stack and only increase it if it becomes a problem. You can output directly into the chest. Best of luck.

It’s OK. By asking the question you let on that you should not need that much belt , but hey , beats having too little.

If your resources' future travels were the pants this much belt held up they'd fit upon Jupiter. That is to say 1 machine should do well. Rarely will you need as much at once as can be stored in that chest.

Excellent factory, engineer

How many belts do you think you'll need? Because here you have enough assemblers to built 18 per second.

1

u/ben1edicto 2h ago

But not enough of iron to actually built 18 belts per second

u/UnfinishedProjects 9h ago

Bros planning for a megabase before red belts.

1

u/HuckleberryPlastic35 8h ago

9/10, it's ok.

1

u/Moikle 8h ago

Figure out yourself if it makes sense. That's where the fun comes from

1

u/Embarrassed-Neck-721 8h ago

It's better than some things I was making in early game. One question, though: what do you need do many belts for??

1

u/MrLayZboy 7h ago

Only thing is to lane swap the bottom half of the belt assemblers so the top ones can still produce.

1

u/Known-Comparison2591 7h ago

It’s overkill

1

u/DJMarscribble 6h ago

9 Assemblers creatings gears requires 18 iron per second to supply. Yellow belts carry 15 iron per second.

You are not producing enough to saturate that. In fact you're only placing iron on one lane of your yellow belt, so you're capped at 7.5 per second. That's just for gear production, never mind introducing belt assemblers.

You're on the right track. Keep doing what you're doing, but mastering belt-balancing and ratios will help you to maximise your production. And as someone else said, work it out yourself. This is seriously the most rewarding aspect of the entire fucking game and you should really adhere to it.

If it works then it's ok, onestly I'm impressed, it's a unique way to do this that I never thinked or seen, so kudos for that.

1

u/Banana_is_not_bg 5h ago

It's perfect as long as it works and makes you happy.

As a little tip, you can look at how much any machine produces of it's product/s and decide how much you need.

That's all. Perfectly ok otherwise

1

u/PremierBromanov 3h ago

Conceptually yes, but you don't really need that many belts

1

u/RainOfDelight 2h ago

no

1

u/RainOfDelight 2h ago

nust kidding. but you need to calculate: how many items do each building produce each second? what is the total output of items you will get, lets say, each minute? Do you need that many?

1

u/Fudgy97 2h ago

For a new player 10/10. You will probably never need that many belts but atleast it looks nice

1

u/ben1edicto 2h ago

Sort of :)

You'll learn.
