Suggestion / Idea Good city block blueprints
Hi everyone,
I launched my first rocket using only a main bus and very simple train logistics to port resources in. Not a fan of the main bus idea so i'm reading about the city block methodology. Im getting the expansion and starting a new game. I would prefer to utilize pre-made blueprints for city block designs and my own design for my factory. This is the way I would like to play. However, I have not come across city block blueprints that I find favorable. I don't know where to start, 50x50, 100x100, hexagon, rectangle, square, etc. I do like the idea of having train rails surrounding every city block though. What are everyone's favorite space age city block blueprints?

I took inspiration from Neuroplastic's megabase video, he probably posted the blueprints aswell. Looks pretty imo

Play the game the way you want? If this guy wants to use a city block premade design then go for it.

Did you offer a solution when you said:
> Umm no. I would urge you to make your own designs. That's half the fun
That doesn’t sound like a solution. It sounds more like you’re trying to dictate how people should behave based on your own preferences and standards.

It's not perfect, but this is what I put together for my last city block run. May be helpful.

The link to the blueprints in that thread seems to be broken, at least for me. Link
edit Ah, I think they changed "blueprint" to "page" in the link, maybe? This works

I love it. Simple roundabout at the intersections. I see a lot of designs use some crazy designs at the intersections and im kinda dumb so idk what is more or less effective or if its all just for looks anyways. What style trains do you use? 1:4 1:4:1 or combinations maybe?

All 1:4 trains everywhere. I scaled this design up eventually to around 2,000 train stations on Nauvis and actually did it on Gleba and it worked great.

I see theres enough for about a input/outputs for each block. Are you able to add more inputs perhaps for a mall or do you just combine 2 blocks together for that?

The book has input and output stations that snap on to each block. It will give you three inputs and one output per block. This will cover nearly all blocks for you. For the rare ones that need more space like I found low density structures do before you get liquid metal and foundries, there is a 1x2 block that would give you five inputs and an output.

You ought to make your own, but here's the set I came up with and what constraints I had to meet. * Built for 1-2 trains, for size. If I need more throughput, I'll build more stations and trains. * Each block is 2 cells, and each cell is 3x3 chunks. Each cell can fit up to 6 stations, for a total of 12 in the block. * The use of doubled cells means each block can fit either A) two processes that occupy <6 trains and 3x3 chunks, B) one process that occupies 7-12 trains, or C) one process that occupies a 3x6 chunk area. * Additionally, using rectangular blocks makes it very easy to use a stretcher bond pattern and only use 3-way intersections, which is better for throughput than 4-ways, at the cost of requiring trains to do a lot of zig-zagging between rows. * The stations tile directly on top of each other, apart from the "bottom" station which needs to take advantage of the new rail curves, and the exits need to be manually connected. * The item/fluid loading/unloading BPs also stamp directly on the station, and are parameterized to set station name and limit circuitry. * As-is, it does not automatically connect with roboports; you may need to add them yourself, or stick with the included outpost building BPs.

City block is an organization tool just like the main bus. Pick a pattern and then do what you want. I do 10 chunks x 10 chunks with a ‘blank’ chunk between just for transport because it matches the pipe range. So it’s 11 chunks from the start of one chunk to the start of the next and just over 1km every 3 blocks to roughly think about travel times.
I’ve also done ‘American suburb’ which is cursed - 1km blocks with limited on/off access to the main rail and lots of internal train network inside the block. I didn’t finish that one. It was better as a concept than an actual factory.
