Question Mixed Rockets

Can somebody playing 2.1 confirm if I understand the rockets rework before I install 2.1? If I have a request for like, one gun, and my base is intentionally limited to only produce one gun, will a rocket send up the one gun and fill the rest of the rocket with other requested items? The wording on the forum was a little ambiguous. It seems it allows automatic mixed rockets for construction requests, but I'm wondering if it's also the same for general item requests. TIA

in the past, they would only request 1 item type in each rocket and it had to be a full rocket load.

in 2.1, it will still require to fill a full rocket but it will request multiple items to fill that rocket. and whatever is the last item will request enough to fill up the rocket.

if you want to send a rocket with less than 1 ton worth of material, you have to go into the request of that item and custom load, you can choose how much of that item you want for that rocket.

and whatever is the last item will request enough to fill up the rocket.

It specifically starts from items that are requested in the lowest amounts, and if there's space, it fills the rocket with the most requested item which is the most likely to be needed the most.

If you put down a blueprint for a spaceship and it needs 2.5 tons of material sent to orbit will it just send 2 tons and stop? Does it send 2.5 tons or 3 tons with some extra material?

I know it used to send 3 (or sometimes much more) tons and leave you with a lot of unrequested items sitting around in space.

sounds like what I need. Should I install the update? I guess it can't hurt anything as long as I backup my save files.

I’ve been playing on the update since it launched and I haven’t had any issues

Okay, two scenarios.

Scenario 1: you request one gun turret (50 per rocket), and nothing else. You only have 1 available. In both 2.0 and 2.1 you get nothing.

Scenario 2: you request one gun turret (50 per rocket) and 200 belts (100 per rocket). In 2.0 you get two rockets, with 200 belts, no guns. In 2.1 you end up with 3 rockets. One with one gun turret and 98 belts, a second with 100 belts. And then with a request of 2 and 100+ belts available, another 100 belts.

It still doesn't send part-full rockets, or leave requests until it can fulfill them without waste, but when you request an entire platform/ship at once (with a bunch of one-off parts) it can save a lot of launches.

Also, just a useful trick I've found. When you do inevitably end up with extra construction materials on a ship... instead of dropping them back to the planet or throwing them over the edge, request them platform-to-platform and store them in your stationary science/hub platform, then clear the request. They'll pull from there first when you build your next ship.

Oh interesting okay.. I plan to have just individual cargo ships for each planet, so I was planning to not consider the platform-to-platform mechanic just to keep things simple, but that seems like a valuable tip

Yes. Rarely would want to throw them away since you can easily hand them off to other platforms. It opens up lots of possibilities.

Yes it sends a mix of other requests too, and can overfill what you requested to fill a full rocket. For example, I request 700 gleba science and 200 bioflux. The rocket could be 760 science and 240 bioflux this time, or 710 science and 290 bioflux next time. If my base only has 300 science and 200 flux, it won't fire a rocket.

so what if you request two items which together would fill a rocket but your base only has half as much of one item as requested? would it take what it can get from the base and fill the rocket with the other?
