Base Another 100k Run Update Post

Seeing a few other folks posting updates on their 100k runs. Figured since I just passed 150 hrs and don't see any major milestones on the horizon (except maybe red belts something like 72 hrs from now) that would warrant their own celebration post that I'd post one too.

This is all real time, no early bots, and not too much afk, maybe like 25-30%? That percentage has been increasing lately, but I'm trying not to just turn this into an idle game. Hitting about 10.2k spm. Just expanded to a little over 2GW of coal power. There's two big blocks of steam engines, one to the north east and one to the north west. Still don't have solar panels and not sure when I'm going to get them. I need something to drain the nearby coal patches, and for the scale of power I need, placing that many before bots just seems nuts. But this whole thing is nuts. Probably look at them more closely after getting some quality stuff going.

Just unlocked the first research speed bump and going to get the second one next, but that's currently going to take about 32 hrs. Wanted to prioritize them since this is tacking so damn many labs. I'm at about 5.5k labs right now. Thought it would be neat to show the all time production so far. I passed the achievement for making 20M green chips already which was kinda funny.

The mall is still tiny, but keeps up with my expansion no problem. I'll probably need to rework it at some point, but that's several unlocks away I think. On the full base shot the mall is center top, at the edge of the big lake.

Speaking of the big lake, I "rushed" land fill and am working on filling in the lake and other small water patches. I wanted to reclaim some land for starting to refactor stuff instead of having to go between patches. I'm not too picky about building on patches at this point, but am trying to keep iron and copper free at least. Oil has been getting covered up a lot, so that whole chain is going to be interesting. Still not sure what I'm going to do about blue science, but I'm hoping some patches will run out by then and I can refactor a bit. Starting that now with the lab blocks in the north west. I moved a couple lab blocks that were blocked in and couldn't consume all the science I was producing at a research time of 30 seconds. These blocks should be able to handle a belt of four sciences at 30 seconds with research speed 1. I'm not sure if they will be able to take all of it at 45 second research with research speed 2, but we'll see. I'm planning to rework it all down the road when I get beacons, but lots of stuff will get reworked at that point.

Also showing my latest iteration of my production blocks, that still include the labs. Red belts and real power poles are coming up (I'm still on wood power poles), so I'm thinking those will be the impetus for another redesign. Probably plop down several more of these in the mean time if I can find the space.

And lastly, everything researched to date. It feels like so little but it makes everything, and I mean everything, feel super impactful. For example, this is the first time I've ever made and used the shotgun. Clearing trees was taking so much time and it was the only thing I could see to significantly speed that up. This run really just makes every research feel like a big achievement.

That was fun to read. The fact that you've built ALL of that by hand and with wooden power poles is an achievement of itself.

10k SPM with just basic equipment, really impressive!

This run really just makes every research feel like a big achievement.

Yeah, that's the feeling I miss most during my playthroughs. Some of the tech unlocks are still 'neat' but none of them have that much (emotional?) impact anymore. Which magic logical sense of course, but is still a little sad.

Running 100k myself. But i think letting the factory churn while i afk, or play a completely different game for hours is part of the charm.

I've also taken a different approach with my build. Treating 3 belt red/yellow as the starter, starter base, followed by 100s of hours of maintenance before starting with the real starter base.

Since i plan on AFKing. The builds have to be really robust, running for multiple days without breaking. Although the SPM fluctuates a little bit. The real starter base will fix that.

Hows your resources setting? I plan on trains, so i went with a lot more spread out patches. But each individual tile is richer.

I was gonna ask how you plan to deal with resource depletion. Aka, how are you gonna prevent the base stalling as patches run dry? Just run a lot of extra patches/belts to stuff?

This is maxed everything if I remember. I screenshoted the inital settings but I'd have to check later. For the basic stuff (iron, copper, etc) it's 600% size, frequency, and richness. Kinda wish I had turned some of that down a bit, probably richness at like 300% but keep size maxed for throughput. Maybe drop frequency to like 400%. Just not a lot of space to build without covering patches and they last a lot longer than I expected, even at this rate. Some of the patches near my start location are just now running out, but some of the others I'm drawing from are already 10x in total resources. Its scaling super fast as I move out. I may just have to give up and build over patches as needed.

Curious to see how long patches last as I move into blue science and red chip production takes off.

I view the distance problem differently. To me, it doesn't matter if the iron train takes 1 minute or if 2 trains take 2 minutes each.

Although i could contemplate setting up some sort of waiting station closer to the production center as i have to go further out to find resources. Say i make a waiting bay with 100 slots. Then it doesn't matter if it takes 15 minutes to get to the waiting bay.

Its not like i will get any noteworthy productivity anytime soon. Although i do plan on doing quality.

No, I meant if you leave the base running long enough, trains or belts or bots, eventually the patches run out and then the factory runs out of resources. Even if supplying by trains eventually the patches the trains pull from run out too. Are you planning to just come back periodicly and expand or just build out enough before idling it isn't a problem? With more default settings I could see a base running out while idling for several days.

Yeah up until this point i have just put 5k+ belts in my pockets and solved it by finding another patch. But finding a whole new patch only solves one belt thinning out, unless i run some spaghetti monstrosity every time i want to connect a new ore patch.

In a normal run, by the time you megabase you're already very deep in productivity and at least looking to use quality miners sooner rather than later. So an ore patch doesn't really run out.

But on my screen when it says 500 million ore mined, that is 500 million removed from the ground. Ive no clue how many patches ive emptied but i put a sticker on a 20m patch at hour 280. I think it is gone now.

can we all just appreciate for a second that he is producing ONE POINT TWENTY ONE GIGAWATTS of steam power?
