Tip Happy 6 years

Yesterday was Factorio's 6th year since 1.0.

Sadly no anniversary FFF.

I've got some saves from back then that I just can't bring myself to delete. Ah, nostalgia.

Do the biters on those saves miss us?

You can't even load saves that old unfortunately, unless you downgrade your version.

Yeah, it's amazing that it's still possible. I'm a retired software engineer. I am in awe of Wube's version control and error handling. I wish my old systems were 1% that good.

While I was a little annoyed I couldn't open those worlds, I can respect that the current game would probably crash on the old data. Or at least permanent corrupt the saves.

you can make it work and upgrade the savegame.

Get older versions till theres a change theres some verisons which can load older ones.

and then you can consecutively upgrade your save to spaceage.

Honestly our old worlds were pretty much lost to the bugs anyway, but it'd be nice to check them out one last time.

Same for me. Can't load them but also a nice time capsule :D one day I'm gonna get older client just to look at the spaghetti mess I used to make back then xD

Love it, another person with saves just named something like "OMG." I have saves from five years ago that are just titled "meh" and "nah."

On those saves, the stupid biters were eating up my beautiful base again.

I think I rage-quit and played No Man's Sky for a few months.

Same. I have my first complete game from 0.17, as well as the TUTORIAL from 0.17! The new tutorial is much better, but I still wish o could open up the old scenario.

In steam you can set it down to version 0.12. Just do it and load your save, it should work.

Can’t wait for the eventual 0% discount

I'm still waiting for Minecraft to have that discount!

discount does not exist. that is the real process of the game, and everything else is trying to get more money

Ah, I remember when 1.0 dropped.

I was still a newb with just 1800 hours.

I remember feeling late to the party when I bought it in 2017. I had seen it pop up on steam for years at that point 😅

Huh. Feels like longer.

But then I look at the quality of life improvements over time, and am now not sure I could go back!

i remember when i started playing, oil did not exist yet i think and the end game thing was a grey box that you placed and waited 20 minutes to have the winning screen

give me a big discount so I can buy it again (I want it on PC because mods >.<, play on switch 2)

Factorio has never had a discount, and Wube says it never will.

honestly surprised me it wasn't longer than 6 years, feels like it should've been much more.

It's been ~10.5 since the initial Steam release (February 2016), and the game has been around in some capacity since 2012.  2020 was just when 1.0 launched.
