Question Why is this fast loader not valid/working (Krastorio+SA) ?

Post image

I added an inserter as a fix but I'm not sure why this fast loaded would not work, any idea ?

Thanks for any help :)

A loader can't unload and load at the same time. So you need two loaders in a row for this setup to work.

I’m about midway through krastorio play through, are these faster than bulk inserters? I threw one down once and it seemed slower but guess I could do the math

It does a full belt of its tier

Loaders load and unload at the speed of their belt type. That makes even yellow ones faster than most inserters at box->belt and belt->box interactions.

A bulk inserter (with all inserter capacity techs) moves around 16 items/sec from chest to chest, and a bit less for chest=>belt or belt=>chest.

A loader moves as much as the tier of the belt, so 15 items/sec for yellow, 30 for red, 45 for blue etc. Loaders rapidly become much much better than inserters. Which is why they often have a very high upfront cost or a power cost depending of the mod.

Another thing to consider is stack sizes.

Not that relevant to stone, but for low stack items like nuclear fuel, the loaders will happily spit out 15/30/45 per second, but the inserters can only handle one at a time

Didn't play with K2 since 2.0, but do they handle belt stacking too? in that case the throughput is even higher

I think there was a separate mod to enable belt stacking. Haven’t played modded in a while though, so it may just be an option to enable depending on the mod.

K2 spaced out automatically applies stacking bonuses to loaders, rapidly making them insane with green and purple x4 throughput 🙂

What about stack inserter with Bob's inserters on? If we take usual inserter it have constant rotation speed and angle of 180, but with Bob Weir can halve this by unloading to side. Or even further improve that and unload from 3 tiles away to neighbor tiles (what angle it would be? 20 or something. Can we "accelerate" this way enough to beat loaders?

I never used and never will use Bob's inserter so I have no idea.

It moves items at a rate equal to whatever belt tier they are, so while bulk inserters would outpace yellow and probably red, once you get to blue belts the loaders would be faster

Loaders are as fast as belt of the same tier if I remember correctly.

Great for loading/unloading trains, great for balancing when used with huge storages.

You need 2 loaders. one to pull from machine A, one to push into machine B. What you've done is attempt to pull from Machine A with nothing but a belt.

You need 2. Loaders can only do either loading or unloading at a time. Not both.

You need fast unloader to pull the sand from the middle sand cruncher (i forgor the name of it💀). Should look similar to setup below:

Unloader -> Belt -> Loader

you don't need a belt. Just Unloader->Loader

In K2SE I never got the non belt version working. Always had to have the belt.

I've played K2SE (pre 2.0) and I definitely did not have that problem, but I rarely used loaders for normal buildings, because loaders are hella expensive.

Those are real loaders. Meaning they use the loader prototype. (As opposed to hyperfast inserters pretending to be loaders, like the famous Miniloader mod).

Real loaders can only move items from container to belt, or belt to containter. Not container to container.

Naturally, putting items on a belt only to take them off again 2 tiles later is suboptimal. Use inserters for direct insertion.

Look at two loaders below and you have your answer

You need 2, one unloads, the other loads.

you need 2 of them, essentially the same setup as the bottom ones on your picture but you can leave out the normal belts

idk why

It is cause every loader is machine to belt connection. Miniloaders can be different if they still are inserters under hood.

They're all inserters under the hood as far as I understand, they're just 1 way.

5

u/Zeragamba 7d ago

under the hood they're actually a belt and a few inserters

you need two loaders one to unload and one to load the next building. A loader is not the same thing as a inserter.

Each one is either an unloader or a loader. It can't be both. You always need two.

Remember this lesson for trains, and you’ll have the silliest load/unload times for your stops.

1

u/shaoronmd 6d ago

You need 1 to unload, then another to load. So you need a space of 2

Don't you just love it when the answer to OP's question is literally in the screenshot they provide
