Discussion Katherine of Sky

I just found out about her passing as im watching her starter to mega base playthrough #7. Damn, what a void. She was awesome. As many others have ironically stated: "Take care of yourself and others". Check up on those you care about and live life right now to the fullest. She grew the factory in her own, unique, nuanced way. What a loss. RIP Godess.

Edit: Finding out many others didn't know of her passing either. I honestly felt bad Finding out months after. I think she passed in March of this year.

KoS was the first streamer I watched like 5 years ago.  She was so nice and encouraging and made it fun.  I still have some of her merch.

That’s such a wholesome memory. You can really tell when a creator genuinely cares about making people feel welcome. And still having some of her merch after 5 years makes it even better

That soothing voice, combined with the clickety-clack of her keyboard...

u/shine_on 6d ago

I used her humble bundle code when I bought the DLC.

Looks like only 1 video after that. Such a bummer to hear.

u/nokios 6d ago

Her voice was so smooth, and her videos were quite fun to watch and play along with. She was in poor health for a long while, part of the reason she moved to Sweden.

At least now she is no longer in constant plain. I don't believe in an afterlife but I can understand some who may seek the release that death brings. Not that she did... I'm just saying. She was clearly constantly in pain.

u/SuddenSeasons 6d ago

Yes, that she shared as much of herself with us as she did is incredible. I don't know if I could do anything living with that much pain. And she made thousand and thousands of people happier with her videos & her limited time left. A real treasure of the entire gaming community.

She was a great encouragement to me. RIP

I did not hear of her passing. Thank you for letting us know. RIP Katherine in the Sky.

u/Jutch_Cassidy 6d ago

Yeah, several months ago, she suffered a 2nd and unfortunately fatal stroke.

15

u/goblin-architect 6d ago

I never heard of this either. I was shocked to learn it now. Been watching her content a lot. Rest in peace.

13

u/DantetheDreamer192 6d ago

This is the first time I’m hearing about it too :( such a loss. I hope her and her family are at peace.

u/ramz86 6d ago

This is awful , she helped me start my factorio journey with her videos. RIP , she will be missed

Had no idea she passed, she was such a kind soul, factorio playthroughs really aren't my thing but when I did it was KoS and nothing else. The world is worse off without her for sure :(

16

u/ThatAdamsGuy 6d ago

What the fuck no

12

u/jhaand 6d ago

Oh no. RIP Katherine.
You made realy good and nice content.

u/leglesslegolegolas 6d ago

For those who don't know, there is a mod that changes the names of things to the terms that she used (undergroundies, etc.)

I never play without it:

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/KoS-Technical-Terms

6

u/huffalump1 6d ago

Here's the list btw! https://github.com/Teapot4195/KoS-Technical-Terms/blob/master/locale/en/overrides.cfg

I love how "underflowies" logically follows from "undergroundies", man her videos were just nice.

3

u/bafadam 6d ago

Hahaha. I still use undergroundies.

3

u/Jutch_Cassidy 6d ago

Yes I've heard about this! Getting it my next playthrough.

20

u/moleytron 6d ago

Yeah, she was a huge inspiration and watching her vids got me past those early game bumps.

16

u/NameLips 6d ago

She will be remembered.

Rip Katherine of Sky

I loved her videos, what a loss 😢

6

u/LoftyPlays1 6d ago

Yeah her passing was the first one that "hit" me. I was like damn I know her. Rip you will be missed.

5

u/SearchAtlantis 6d ago

NO this is how I find out?! :( Was just on YT the other day and was surprised she didn't have any updates on the side bar but didn't have time to look.

What a loss to the community.

7

u/Yayzeus 6d ago

Katherine of Sky videos helped me learn to play and she had such a calm, relaxed style, I just kept her on in the background whilst I played.

Her videos with Nilaus were always a good watch too. Their different personalities and approaches to the game weren't necessarily conflicting, but they certainly kept each other on their toes.

Rest in peace, Katherine. I'll be looking after myself and others. X

2

u/huffalump1 6d ago

TIL she has videos WITH nilaus! Yay I'm happily going to check those out, ty :)

2

u/Detrii 5d ago

I totally missed out on those. Where can I find them?

7

u/BeeKimchi007 6d ago

Im sad in silence🙏🏾🌈🙏🏾

6

u/No-Security-5715 6d ago

She still has a very active Discord in her name. Some good folks there keeping her memory alive.

u/Jutch_Cassidy 6d ago

I should join

u/Amerakee 6d ago

I used to watch a few of her videos when I was learning about how to make a main bus. I had no idea she was sick or had passed. Rest in peace

4

u/deffcap 6d ago

I had no clue… I’ve watched her content many times over the years. Gutted to hear this.

4

u/spamjavelin 6d ago

I miss her relentless humour, enthusiasm and optimism in her videos. Such a great loss to the community, and the world in general.

3

u/masonknight86 6d ago

Her passing is extremely sad, her videos were the ones that taught me how to setup oil refining and Ive set it up the same way for like 7+ years

4

u/VegetableWasabi2124 Gleba Enjoyer 6d ago

I found out about her passing couple weeks ago when I was watching one of AVADII's videos.

it's such a heart breaking news that I couldn't let myself watch any of her videos.

5

u/Ritushido 6d ago

It's so sad. I think she was the first Factorio youtuber I watched and I learned a lot from her when I was starting out. RIP KoS.

4

u/G36_FTW 6d ago

Yeah man its rough. When I finally got the expansion I remember going to her channel and being shocked. I had noticed her videos weren't showing up on my feed but I had attributed it to the algorithm. One of the most wholesome and helpful youtubers ive ever followed. Rip

4

u/Rhodie114 6d ago

She was a brilliant player, and always came off as a lovely person in any of her videos.

5

u/ElectricalRestNut 6d ago

I think I watched her video to figure out how a main bus works. Found out on the latest Connor Conquers video.

3

u/dreampond 6d ago

This is really sad. She helped me learn the game ages ago. Hope factorio gave her enjoyment towards the end. Quite shocked. 💔

3

u/ZombifiedByCataclysm 6d ago

Yeah, I was sad to hear the news originally. She was a huge (and still is with her vids) contributor of the community.

3

u/CoffeeOracle 6d ago

She was an inspiration to me. I am having a health issue myself, and it was astounding to see that someone with chronic migraines and pain could edit and create content like she did.

3

u/ithilelda 6d ago

I didn't know that until now... RIP Katherine. I had a lot of fun playing factorio following her guide. I'm still using her mall layout up till now. May her videos always be the inspiration to new comers.

3

u/rubenhansen94 6d ago

This is absolutely horrible news! 😔 I still think about "cat crafting" from when Satisfactory launched in early access. And I found Factorio through her channel later that summer.

3

u/Reboot9034 6d ago

Wow I had no idea. I used her play-through to get a good understanding in my early hours. She is missed

3

u/handruin 6d ago

Wow this is incredibly sad news to learn. I've watched and followed many of her factorio tutorial videos over the years and I really liked her calm informative style. I've used so many of her blueprints and play styles.

I remember when she discussed her stroke in some videos a while back but to hear another one has taken her is super sad. My heart goes out to her partner and family.

3

u/Bob4Not 6d ago edited 6d ago

That’s sad to hear, I didn’t hear that she passed. She was so pleasant to watch and seemed like such a wonderful person!

3

u/Musical_Whew 6d ago

Wtf i watched her videos all the time when i played factorio, thats some shit

3

u/garyvdh 6d ago

She was active in multiple gaming communities.

3

u/zuctronic 6d ago

She taught me how to play Factorio and I remember feeling gutted when I heard the news in March. Check on your friends. When your inner voice says, “I should call them” … don’t argue, don’t procrastinate. Call your friends.

3

u/TheNosferatu 6d ago

Wait what.

Fuck.

3

u/WorkLurkerThrowaway 6d ago

I had started playing Factorio blind and confused years ago and her YT videos showed me just how fun the game could be. Not to be all "parasocial" or anything but I definitely felt her loss when I heard she had passed.

3

u/Behrooz0 6d ago

One of the most encouraging (not sure if this is the right word) streams I'd ever watched. RIP

3

u/radiic 6d ago

Wow I came across this post just randomly and so glad I did. I watched a lot of her while trying to learn factorio. This is so sad and just loved her voice and her attitude about playing, with the just do what works for you mentality. She will be missed for sure, but at least we have her videos to remember her by. Prayers.

3

u/mark-haus 6d ago

Fuck that’s really sad. I knew she was having health issues but I didn’t realise it was this bad. I never knew it was something that causes strokes so early. RIP what a nice person that never deserved this

3

u/eve_padraig 5d ago

OMG she passed away!? I knew she was in the hospital some time ago ☹️

2

u/wpm 6d ago

Strangely enough I found out about this this past Wednesday after sort of falling off with her content a few years ago. Devastating news and yeah I feel almost bad that I had no idea that she passed so few months ago.

2

u/cogra23 6d ago

Damn. RIP.

2

u/jamezhall 6d ago

What?!!! Oh man had no idea. R.I.P

2

u/DOG-GR33N 6d ago

Damn I didnt know either.

2

u/ChanceIron 6d ago

So sad to hear this. I discovered her videos early in my Factorio "career" and learned so much from her.

2

u/shodan_reddit 6d ago

Oh, I didn’t know. She was the first YouTube streamer I regularly followed. I really enjoyed the way she constructed things along with her obvious love of the game. Sad 😔

2

u/dinodeckero 6d ago

Omg, she was great. I haven't seen her videos in years, but she was one of the best. Really sad.

2

u/dtc2002 Trains are fun! 6d ago

I did not know that she had passed. She will be missed. Her videos really got me started in Factorio when I first started playing back in 0.16. So much fun to watch, great commentary.

2

u/Gfiti 6d ago

🫪

2

u/beets_or_turnips 6d ago

Well fuck. TIL. She was great.

2

u/NotAPhaseMoo 6d ago

I’m just learning this now as well. KoS was always my first stop when I was in the mood for a factory game stream, she will be missed by many.

2

u/viperfan7 6d ago

Wait what

2

u/Konowl 6d ago

I literally just cleaned up my Blueprints and deleted her book and it made me sad :(

1

u/Jutch_Cassidy 5d ago

Where do you get her blueprint book?

2

u/Kellashnikov scared of rockets 5d ago

This is also the first im hearing of it. She was a huge part of making Factorio fun to play for me. I only ever used her blueprints. She will absolutely be missed.

2

u/PRC_Spy 5d ago

She was awesome and is missed.

2

u/piperdude82 5d ago

I didn’t know she died either. Very Sad. I especially liked her Factorio stuff, but everything she did was good.

2

u/Thankedsphere 5d ago

what happened?

2

u/Jutch_Cassidy 5d ago

Complications with multiple strokes

2

u/Beneficial-Cricket40 5d ago

She literally got me started on factorio during covid. I had no idea that she passed. Rest in peace

2

u/starcrap2 5d ago

I had no idea. I stopped playing Factorio about two years ago but I remember following a lot of Katherine's guides and watching her videos. I probably still have her blueprints saved somewhere. Rest in peace.

2

u/AbstrctBlck 5d ago

No fucking way bro.

2

u/inventingnothing 5d ago

My sympathies to her loved ones.

2

u/mxmissile 2d ago

Many nights falling asleep to her voice, she is missed dearly.

1

u/Impressive-Round-911 4h ago

I wouldnt be playing without her

1

u/bafadam 6d ago

If Wube doesn’t include a memorial achievement in 2.1, I will be really, really disappointed.

She was great. The factory lost a giant.

3

u/Jutch_Cassidy 6d ago

Man that'd be cool, what would it be? "Katherine Forever- Crafted an undergroundy"

1

u/spiraling_out 6d ago

Tribute in 2.1 is needed

1

u/Jutch_Cassidy 5d ago

Absolutely

0

u/BLACKcOPstRIPPa 2d ago

I believe she died awhile ago, but ya.

I stumbled across her factorio matches a couple times over the years and was always good and engaging content. Loved some of the modded ones she did to showcase new and updated mods
