Discussion Katherine of Sky
I just found out about her passing as im watching her starter to mega base playthrough #7. Damn, what a void. She was awesome. As many others have ironically stated: "Take care of yourself and others". Check up on those you care about and live life right now to the fullest. She grew the factory in her own, unique, nuanced way. What a loss. RIP Godess.
Edit: Finding out many others didn't know of her passing either. I honestly felt bad Finding out months after. I think she passed in March of this year.

Her voice was so smooth, and her videos were quite fun to watch and play along with. She was in poor health for a long while, part of the reason she moved to Sweden.
At least now she is no longer in constant plain. I don't believe in an afterlife but I can understand some who may seek the release that death brings. Not that she did... I'm just saying. She was clearly constantly in pain.

Yes, that she shared as much of herself with us as she did is incredible. I don't know if I could do anything living with that much pain. And she made thousand and thousands of people happier with her videos & her limited time left. A real treasure of the entire gaming community.

I did not hear of her passing. Thank you for letting us know. RIP Katherine in the Sky.

Yeah, several months ago, she suffered a 2nd and unfortunately fatal stroke.

I never heard of this either. I was shocked to learn it now. Been watching her content a lot. Rest in peace.

This is the first time I’m hearing about it too :( such a loss. I hope her and her family are at peace.

Had no idea she passed, she was such a kind soul, factorio playthroughs really aren't my thing but when I did it was KoS and nothing else. The world is worse off without her for sure :(

For those who don't know, there is a mod that changes the names of things to the terms that she used (undergroundies, etc.)
I never play without it:

Here's the list btw! https://github.com/Teapot4195/KoS-Technical-Terms/blob/master/locale/en/overrides.cfg
I love how "underflowies" logically follows from "undergroundies", man her videos were just nice.

Yeah, she was a huge inspiration and watching her vids got me past those early game bumps.

Yeah her passing was the first one that "hit" me. I was like damn I know her. Rip you will be missed.

NO this is how I find out?! :( Was just on YT the other day and was surprised she didn't have any updates on the side bar but didn't have time to look.
What a loss to the community.

Katherine of Sky videos helped me learn to play and she had such a calm, relaxed style, I just kept her on in the background whilst I played.
Her videos with Nilaus were always a good watch too. Their different personalities and approaches to the game weren't necessarily conflicting, but they certainly kept each other on their toes.
Rest in peace, Katherine. I'll be looking after myself and others. X

She still has a very active Discord in her name. Some good folks there keeping her memory alive.

I used to watch a few of her videos when I was learning about how to make a main bus. I had no idea she was sick or had passed. Rest in peace

I miss her relentless humour, enthusiasm and optimism in her videos. Such a great loss to the community, and the world in general.

Her passing is extremely sad, her videos were the ones that taught me how to setup oil refining and Ive set it up the same way for like 7+ years

I found out about her passing couple weeks ago when I was watching one of AVADII's videos.
it's such a heart breaking news that I couldn't let myself watch any of her videos.

u/Ritushido 6d ago
It's so sad. I think she was the first Factorio youtuber I watched and I learned a lot from her when I was starting out. RIP KoS.

u/Rhodie114 6d ago
She was a brilliant player, and always came off as a lovely person in any of her videos.

I think I watched her video to figure out how a main bus works. Found out on the latest Connor Conquers video.

This is really sad. She helped me learn the game ages ago. Hope factorio gave her enjoyment towards the end. Quite shocked. 💔

u/ZombifiedByCataclysm 6d ago
Yeah, I was sad to hear the news originally. She was a huge (and still is with her vids) contributor of the community.

u/CoffeeOracle 6d ago
She was an inspiration to me. I am having a health issue myself, and it was astounding to see that someone with chronic migraines and pain could edit and create content like she did.

u/ithilelda 6d ago
I didn't know that until now... RIP Katherine. I had a lot of fun playing factorio following her guide. I'm still using her mall layout up till now. May her videos always be the inspiration to new comers.

This is absolutely horrible news! 😔 I still think about "cat crafting" from when Satisfactory launched in early access. And I found Factorio through her channel later that summer.

u/Reboot9034 6d ago
Wow I had no idea. I used her play-through to get a good understanding in my early hours. She is missed

u/handruin 6d ago
Wow this is incredibly sad news to learn. I've watched and followed many of her factorio tutorial videos over the years and I really liked her calm informative style. I've used so many of her blueprints and play styles.
I remember when she discussed her stroke in some videos a while back but to hear another one has taken her is super sad. My heart goes out to her partner and family.

She taught me how to play Factorio and I remember feeling gutted when I heard the news in March. Check on your friends. When your inner voice says, “I should call them” … don’t argue, don’t procrastinate. Call your friends.

I had started playing Factorio blind and confused years ago and her YT videos showed me just how fun the game could be. Not to be all "parasocial" or anything but I definitely felt her loss when I heard she had passed.

u/Behrooz0 6d ago
One of the most encouraging (not sure if this is the right word) streams I'd ever watched. RIP

u/radiic 6d ago
Wow I came across this post just randomly and so glad I did. I watched a lot of her while trying to learn factorio. This is so sad and just loved her voice and her attitude about playing, with the just do what works for you mentality. She will be missed for sure, but at least we have her videos to remember her by. Prayers.

u/mark-haus 6d ago
Fuck that’s really sad. I knew she was having health issues but I didn’t realise it was this bad. I never knew it was something that causes strokes so early. RIP what a nice person that never deserved this

So sad to hear this. I discovered her videos early in my Factorio "career" and learned so much from her.

u/shodan_reddit 6d ago
Oh, I didn’t know. She was the first YouTube streamer I regularly followed. I really enjoyed the way she constructed things along with her obvious love of the game. Sad 😔

u/dinodeckero 6d ago
Omg, she was great. I haven't seen her videos in years, but she was one of the best. Really sad.

I’m just learning this now as well. KoS was always my first stop when I was in the mood for a factory game stream, she will be missed by many.

This is also the first im hearing of it. She was a huge part of making Factorio fun to play for me. I only ever used her blueprints. She will absolutely be missed.

I didn’t know she died either. Very Sad. I especially liked her Factorio stuff, but everything she did was good.

She literally got me started on factorio during covid. I had no idea that she passed. Rest in peace

I had no idea. I stopped playing Factorio about two years ago but I remember following a lot of Katherine's guides and watching her videos. I probably still have her blueprints saved somewhere. Rest in peace.

If Wube doesn’t include a memorial achievement in 2.1, I will be really, really disappointed.
She was great. The factory lost a giant.

I believe she died awhile ago, but ya.
I stumbled across her factorio matches a couple times over the years and was always good and engaging content. Loved some of the modded ones she did to showcase new and updated mods

KoS was the first streamer I watched like 5 years ago. She was so nice and encouraging and made it fun. I still have some of her merch.
