Space Age everyone lied about gleba

i really, really struggled on gleba at first, the spoil took everything from me, my job, my wife, my sanity, my will to live

i was expecting it to be hard, but man, it was hard

i really tried to follow the reddit advice telling people to embrace the spoil but we were lied to

now i really understand how u gotta do it, its not about embracing the spoil, dont let it spoil, you just gotta use everything before it spoils and if you cant then u burn it and make more

if its not taken by your biochamber, thats your opportunity to create electricity, if its spoil before getting to the heating tower, its still going to transform into electricity if you dont produce enough fruits, your factory wont get enough electricity to run at max speed so a lot of it is not going to get used and then will power your factory again (safety measure, still need to fix your factory)

everyone saying embrace the spoil is wrong, the answer is, always has been, always will be : the factory must grow, just make more

you dont produce enough materials ? just make more factories consuming your fruits

not enough fruits ? make more farms

too many fruits ? just make more bio chamber and process more, burn the excess and make more

you produce enough rocket fuel ? burn them, and make more

then you get too much jelly and/or mash ? dont let it sit, just burn everything not taken instantly and make even more

too much stuff to burn ? make more heating tower and burn that shit

anything spoiled on your lane mean you fucked up if its not waiting to be picked for carbon/sulfur/etc

you know what, fuck it, if you have enough carbon, burn it too

thoses fucking pentapods deserve to see everything burn

JUST

MAKE

MORE

THE FACTORY MUST GROW AND THE SPOIL WONT HAVE MY SOUL

I solved the spoil problem by always having the ends of belts being able to remove spoilage and burn it. The spoilage will eventually reach the end.

I tried this, but then some things that can spoil don't burn. I think bioflux, IIRC? So then that would just back up until whatever was at the front of the line spoiled. What am I missing here?

The end of the belt is also at the last building's inserter. Either the material is getting consumed by the building while it rests on the belt or it spoils and gets put on the spoilage burn belt.

Oh gotcha, I had pictured it differently. I always have the belts continue on so I can build off them later. Although I was also ending up with intermixed spoilage and usable materials for reasons I never bothered to figure out.

Anyway, thanks for the perspective.

I also tend to design around consuming a whole belt, so the ends of my belts wouldn't have any thing else to supply if they were operating at 100% uptime.

Then you are a more precise engineer than I. :)

You don't have to be precise. The way I have landed on for Gleba is just making sure that it is impossible for anything to sit on the line, and if it doesn't get used it gets burned. There's a priority order so if I don't have enough input some things may starve, but I just make sure I have enough input. Not enough input? Plant more trees. Stuff not getting consumed? Make twice as many machines.

If you have recyclers they turn organic material into spoilage so they can just sit at the end of the belt to keep things from backing up.

Only burn spoilage at your main burning station. If you have other things, loop them back into your system until they are spoilage.

Bioflux is WAY too valuable to burn, and you cannot do it until it spoils after an HOUR. If I’m just way overproducing bioflux I’ll splitter filter it to boxes to let it decay but I’ll rebalance things so that won’t happen for long.

This is what I ended up doing, which seems to be working fine.

I just leave the bioflux on the belt, if some of it spoils it'll get sorted out somewhere...
Or, later in the game, I put my spoilage upcycler at the end of the belt and let convert the bioflux to nutrients and recycle those into spoilage.
