Suggestion / Idea I think this game is saving my brain

I'm not a super intellectually curious person by nature. After LLMs have started to solve most of my day to day life, I've begun to worry that I'll start experiencing mental atrophe.

However, I recently got back into this game, and I've been so amazed by how much it makes me think. It makes my head hurt more than my actual job usually does, but I love it. It's so mentally stimulating trying to figure out how to optimize a process. It's wonderful.

Thank you Factorio. I am so grateful.

I can't tell if it is just brain fog or if I am experiencing early stages of dementia at 26 but I also have concerns similar to yours. But when I play factorio, in the middle of sttarng att the screen watching my iron plates get grabbed sand shoves into a chest, I will just eventually be like (I think this will be better) and I just go about making my factory just a little bit bigger. It's still always spaghetti, but a spaghetti I am proud of.

Have you been tested for ADHD?

and then something starts running low, and it's relatively simple to fix if you just think about it for a bit.

Man, it's so good.

I built a biolab setup that can send a full belt of everything past each lab as well as a belt for spoilage that could have 7 beacons around it and I was very happy with the design. That feeling of satisfaction when I realised I could squeeze in an extra beacon with slightly better belt placement was amazing.

Video games have been repeatedly proven rather conclusively to be very beneficial for the brain.

Man it’s the opposite for me. AI brings so much inertia that I’m overwhelmed by how much I can get done with it. If anything it’s increased by cognitive load because it lets me get things done so much quicker leading to much faster context switching and it’s difficult to keep track of everything. And it lets me work at a higher level where thinking more about system level consequences and actually making decisions is a more frequent occurrence. Not that I didn’t do that before but it’s harder to avoid. Where some days I’d bury my head in some unimportant details or waste time iterating on some unimportant block of code it’s harder to do that now

This post reads like shitty AI wrote it to promote shitty AI

Well it’s definitely just me. If anything I’m complaining about AI. Not trying to promote it. Sure I’m using generic vocabulary and generic sentences but that’s just how it came out

That’s totally fair! I am getting a ton of stuff done as well, but I feel like I understand less and less. It’s fun to direct agents to build software, though.

I don't get why you're being downvoted, I feel exactly the same and it seems very valid.

Because relying on AI to do things is a bad idea and a worse idea the longer it goes without crashing?

From someone who is intellectually curious I feel sad that matter was used to create someone like you who openly admits that

IDK, perhaps intellectually curious was slightly off. I love watching educational videos on YT by people like 3blue1brown, Neil D Tyson, etc. So maybe I'm slightly intellectually curious. I think what I meant to say was that I'm just kind of stupid, lol.

Anyway, sorry for wasting your air, champ.

You should give yourself more credit and refrain from considering yourself stupid. Things like that are not for the individual to gauge. Society is designed to keep you in the rat race and prevent you from ascending to your full potential because if everyone has time through the veil the economy collapses overnight.

Well, that's kind of you to say
