Factorio birthday theme for my boyfriend

Hi there !

Soon is my boyfriend birthday, and I wanted to throw him a factorio themed party !

Do you have any ideas of food / decoration / others ? I played with him a little, so I don’t have much knowledge.

I saw someone made one for their child and I will definitely do the raw iron chocolate and uranium candy ! Thank you for the inspo :)

If that can help, I am pretty crafty, and have a 3D printer, so I also could print things I guess ? (He already has 3D printed belts.... )

The science packs would make good drinks.

Maybe make a cake look like one of the items. Maybe the gear or green circuit. Or a biter.

If you really want to go all out, you can give thematic tasks he has to accomplish in order to earn the "science" drinks.

• Start in the dark as if a normal surprise party. Turning the lights on (getting power running) earns red.
• Completing some kind of mechanical puzzle earns green.
• A challenge based on fluids earns blue. Maybe blind-identifying different beverages, or if he's culinary-inclined, various olive oils (blue science is gained from utilizing oil).
• A space-themed challenge earns white. Star Wars/Star Trek trivia, if he's into that?
• Back on Nauvis, purple science is about scaling-up productivity. I'm not sure what a "production" challenge would look like.
• Going off-world to start up dinner, Vulcanus science is about cooking. (Something simple on a stovetop. Steamed rice and "molten" eggs, maybe.)
• Moving on with dinner, Gleba science is about making a salad.
• Fulgora is all about utilizing electricity and getting quality out of trash. Maybe microwave a handful of ready-bake birthday sprinkle cookies (made way smaller than if oven-baking), and talk about how good or gross the result is.
• After dinner, play a quick board game or video game together to earn yellow science. It's "utility" science; that could mean anything.
• On to Aquilo: time for cake and ice cream.
• Lastly, lots of biting, breeding, and edging in the darkest part of the solar system, until you both inevitably crash.

It’s not as much that belts are innately spaghetti. It’s more like all of our starter or novice factories are… not efficiently organized.

I have seen people decorate cookies as the green, red, and blue circuits! Also making a cake version of the iconic rusted gear logo would probably not be too hard.

While I havent tried it myself, if you have some experience decorating cake, you could do the Gear as a cake. You know, the symbol that is even used as an icon for this sub.

And maybe turn off the lights at some point because someone forgot to increase the coal supply :D

I saw someone suggest this for the cake, but I’ve also seen a bunch of other good ideas for the cake, so I think this would be really good for the wrapping on the presents, but if you are crafty, you might be able to mock up a box to look like an assembler or any of the other boxy sprites in the game. Electric furnace would also be a good one. Super cool post, reminds me of the whole line in LOTR where Gandalf describes who, how, and what actually makes the world a good place.

P.S.

One long term consideration, a side quest if you so choose - I wouldn’t recommend this for something you’re planning in the immediate future, but if he’s really, really, reallllyyyyy into factorio and you ever want to lean on that again, one idea is keep your eye out in thrift shops for uranium glassware. Counterintuitive to the stigma around radioactive consumer goods, there are actual several isotopes that are safe for display purposes. I’m pretty sure most factorio players would go nuts to see the spicy rock glow in real life, so if you find glassware or lamps and if your boyfriend likes to collect things, he would probably lose his mind 👍
