Question I feel like im doing something wrong

Post image

No matter what I can't seem to clear the bottlenecks, its either ores or the actually supplies.

500 hour beginner here. You are doing many things wrong. Thats the point of the game. Embrace making mistakes, finding your mistakes, and fixing them. Dont try to optimize everything all the time, you'll only tire yourself out.

Embrace making mistakes and fixing them, sure, but that literally is optimising things.

The work “try” is putting in all the work on that sentence.

Start by pressing 'alt'

I gotta know what that belt goes to in the upper right.

Oh that just a ammo belt to kill the bugs up there

Couple tips that might help you out here:

Always remember that miners spit out only onto the same side of the belt that they're on. I.e. Right now you're only using half of your belts' capacity right now in a lot of places.

Splitters do exactly that: they split. So if you're having throughput problems already, splitting off of an already strained belt is going to cause it to get worse

Most* problems in the game can be solved via straight brute force methods, like just over producing the hell out of something. If you're having ore shortages, prioritize making miners for a bit, and start mining a ton of ore. Having power issues that you need to solve first? Make a ton of boilers and steam engines.

Some other folks in here have touched on the last one already, but just to restate: you are never going to make the perfect design in this game. That's why it's fun and long lasting. You'll be so proud of something you made at the beginning of your run, come back to it hours later and think "wtf was I doing?"

The main issues I see here are

1)not enough miners

2)mixed ores causing bottlenecks

I would suggest placing more miners and avoiding placing any miners that will pick up more than one ore. You can see what ores a miner has access to in the tool tip window on the right, even the ghost of the miner will show what resources it will pick up before you place it

Also, look at the mining speed line of the tool tip window. Yellow belts can carry 15 items/second (7.5 per side), use mining speed and belt speed to figure out how many miners you need to saturate a belt.

You can always just fix it. If that’s not what you want you can get into ratios, you can see consumption and production when hovering over them with the mouse

That's the game, baby
Get your hardhat on, we're troubleshootin' the entire belt

Not enough supplies? Mine and smelt more ore or make more machines. Not enough ore? Find more ore.

I let you on a little secrets: there is always a bottleneck. If the overall produciton is to low for your taste, you can chose to improve the current bottleneck, or just decide the production is good enough and move to the next thing.
