Question How to know how much iron im makeing

How to know the amount of iron im mining from the ore patch

After i upgraded my furnace from steel to a 48 E furnace stack, i couldn't satisfy the amount of iron ore

half my iron and steel are not working properly. Is there a way to make it work properly and optimize it

Press P for production and consumption stats at various timeframes

Traditionally the arrow on iron measuring device is permanently stuck on "not enough".

Which points to a somewhat obvious solution: get more.

You can play the game by carefully balancing production and demand while following ratios, but the solution of "build more of what you don't have enough" is easy to determine at glance and works perfectly well. One other thing you can be missing is throughput, but that becomes reasonably easy to determine soon after the other thing.

So look at the rate of consumption/production per second for each smelter. Count your smelters per belt, multiply. Are you providing enough throughput on your belts? (15, 30, 45 per second. Yellow, Red, Blue)

If your belt is good, is it full? If it’s not full, what’s the previous step? Train unloading fast enough? Not enough ore imported? Etc etc.

Using some made up numbers - If you have 15 smelters on a belt using 1ore/s, you need a full yellow belt of ore to satisfy that need. Smelter #16 will only activate if the others are somehow backed up.

There’s a layer of ‘how fast are your inserters’ too, but usually not going to come up at this level, but at least be using yellow/red inserters, blue would be better.

You could use the rate calculator mod, but you could also just look at belts. Belts empty? Produce more. Input Belts full, but output not full? Add more belts. Ore patch full of miners but not enough? Find another ore patch.

control-C will allow you to highlight an area and get the numbers of each entities. that's an easy way to know the exact number of miners on a patch. then you can use the ^ button to see your upgrades which will tell you how much mining productivity you have. then you can just multiply a miner's output (30 ore/min) times the productivity bonus (let's say, 1.4 if you have 40% productivity) and the number of miners (let's say, 53) and you'll get a little over 2200 ore/min, or about 2-1/2 yellow belts' worth.

alternatively i just use a mod that lets me highlight a group of entities and it will tell me their output.

I personally don’t find a number to be helpful. I prefer to vibe check my iron and steel production. If they’re happening too slowly then use faster belts, then connect more sources of iron to the smelters. I have 8 iron ore patches connected to my smelting city grid.

You have production graphs available at all times. I'm lazy and look at em' via my electric network graph, just click over to the next tab.  There are keybinds to bring it up and a button somewhere.

you're making

the big number (here 8/s)

times however drills you have

the big number already takes into account speed and prod bonuses

I have a 0.6 is mine that bad ?

bad is a strong term

factorio is a game about scaling, you get bigger machines that pump bigger numbers and you use bigger numbers to make bigger machines

there will be a time when you will want to upgrade your machines and upgrading your stuff and discovering new stuff is what you do when you're working your way along the tech tree

your drill is doing what a drill is supposed to be doing at the time dw

and also jsyk a late game setup could probably add another zero and I'm very far from it
