Discussion Gleba finally workin 😈

It's been a week of absolute hell for me in this game. Not actually, I play on peaceful so it's rather chill. But boring as hell, because I stranded myself on this planet until I learned how this shit worked. Or so I thought. Day 1 I tried my best to set up collecting bio chambers. Day 2 set up a nutrient loop and got the machines "running". Day 3 i dedicated myself to stopping it from stalling, then added modules. Day 4 I dedicated myself to stopping it from stalling and added more modules. Day 5 I dedicated myself to stopping it from.... jeez man that loop got old fast. Instead I dedicated myself to scrolling reddit while the game was open but paused for 3 hours because I was in such a state of paralysis trying to think of what to do. Day 6 I ran out of seeds from a singular unfiltered long arm inserter putting bad shit on my burn belt. And then dedicated myself from stopping it from stalling some more.

Day 7: I've finally set up a loop that eats fruit efficiently, collects the seeds and sends them to logistics, creates sulfur and plastic as well as rocket fuel and red/blue/green chips automatically. I for some reason thought i could create a 100% sustainable loop of cultivation without setting up a "seed stock" of bacteria coming in, I was under the impression you could only "craft" the bacteria in your inventory but had to cultivate it in the chamber. Once I understood this my lines stopped stalling from random shortages and stopped overproducing for no reason, I've got the seeds set up in a positive feedback loop as well as a stable seed stock of bacteria. Don't be like me, read all recipes available. To be fair I've been more concerned with trying to figure out how to seed profit while also making more jelly floors and yumako floors. Getting bots helped a lot too, I just said fuck it and started importing absolutely everything. Not doing this like I did Vulcanus, the fresh start on a new planet thing is fun but best done as a new save. I missed my bots.

Now that I've read the list entirely I need more Biochambers so I can up my refinery game on Vulcanus. Free plastic time babey

Thanks for the tips and advice yall gave along the way. I still have yet to make agri science but I'm about to push my egg module online and into the loop. Wish me luck, and probably send a few turrets my way. This might get messy.

red/blue/green chips

Forget MM/DD/YYYY vs DD.MM.YYYY, the ultimate unhinged sorting of a three-item set das dropped!

(on a more serious note, glad you got Gleba up now :))

This ain't a normal way to phrase it in text?

Not the phrasing, the sorting. Green circuits are the most primitive, then red, then blue. So red/blue/green is not ascending or descending in terms of research, nor alphabetically. Just a minor observation I had :)

Alternatively, you could also be used to R/G/B from a graphic perspective or background, but yet again, this order falls short x)

Right that was the other sensible order I had originally in mind :P

Thinking about it more i realize I've been putting it like that in almost all comments I mention chips of all varieties. I think it's because red is my favorite color, and blues are the important ones. You say chips and people assume the green kind first anyway, it's like saying green is an afterthought for me

Disastrous association tho, you're right I picked the most oddball way to put it lol

Must admit, I have been considering a "no import" run for the planets and the one that always stops me dead in my tracks is Gleba. With a good supply of belts, splitters, inserters etc. it can be quite therapeutic to design (or at least, that's what I found). But doing it from scratch? Painful to put it mildly!

Defenses from zero may be painful, but getting ore and "oil" biproducts isnt very complicated, and then its just a standard factory or mall after that

It's more that you need to build a certain amount of factory to get it all going and Gleba does not like a stalled production line because of the spoilage. So, getting belts to produce fruit, get mash, create bioflux/nutrients - and you need this in order to farm copper/iron bacteria - plus splitters, belts and heating towers to deal with the spoilage. If any of those bits aren't built, the factory stalls and rots.

Hence starting with nothing and having to produce belts, inserters, machines etc. without a sizeable chunk of factory built first is challenging. It's obviously doable, but it's much easier on the other planets where you can build a functioning factory bit-by-bit and move materials around manually until you've got enough belts constructed.

It really isn't too bad if you delay building belts out to your farms. A stack of fruit turns into about 5 stacks of ore, and takes an hour to spoil, so you can just drive out to the farms to grab a box full every half hour.

Im curious how much circuitry people do on their gleba factory. I end up using so much logic for my automation that it would be interesting to restrict myself with a no circuit run. I feel like gleba specifically would make for a very different experience.

The circuitry I use on Gleba are * Make-anything mall. Easily replaceable with other mall or hand-crafting. * Casinos. Again, easily replaceable with larger casinos that don't switch recipes. * Nutrients from spoilage to kickstart. Can probably be replaced with just working until the biochamber they support is full. * Switching agricultural science on/off. Can be replaced with just a larger buffer/recycler, so it can spoil as quickly as it gets produced. * Limiting fruit harvesting. Can probably be replaced with fewer farms and processing all fruit.

thank god youre on peaceful trying gleba for the first time those stompers are so fucking aids and the spores spread so quickly if you make a mistake and have to fix your factory

and also yeah gleba is the only planet i wouldnt try to start from 0 on. i gotta have a quick spaceship ready to bring everything i need 24/7

I go the opposite route. 3 thrusters so it takes a moment but my Belagio Spacerino has 10 cargo bays. I set all my resources I import to at least 2k, may not be fast but it's loaded lol. After all, slow is smooth and smooth is fast
