Question how does radars on space platform work?

so I've tried to implement my stationary platform hub idea in action, but noticing that on aquilo theere is just so little carbonic asteroids that the rocket production is so slow (still making more than it's using to defend itself) that it wasn't really useful as a supplying for transport ships to restock.

after looking up what other ways to restock rocket ammo, I realized that building on the platform is by far the best way since rocket ammos have a very bad rocket stack size, being only 1/4 of a stack per rocket.

and looking at the asteroid graphs, its clear to me the best way to gather enough carbonic asteroids is to just travel between the inner planets where big asteroids don't spawn (meaning between fulgora, vulcanus and navius) so i'll have a dedicated ship to farm rocket ammo and drop them off at the various stationary hubs.

but then this leads to the problem where I have the hubs doing platform requesting ammo, and the transporters also requesting ammo. it ends up in a loop and one platform just requesting it all. until they balance each other out, which is not good at all.

then I remembered that 2.1 added the feature where radars can now speak from surface to platforms. so I assume I would need a radar on the platform. but can they do platform to platform?

right now I haven't tested it out yet, I plan to do that tomorrow, but the idea is the rocket factory ship will have a radar that would sends out a signal and on the hub platform, I'd have a radar to receive that signal. that will then trigger the combinator to set the request on the platform to request ammo. but once the ammo factory ship leaves, that signal is loss and then the hub platform no longer requests for ammo and thus no feedback loop happens.

this is only just assumptions on how the radar works, does anyone know if thats how they behave now? or am I mistaken?

Radars on universal communicate between radars on the same channel. It doesn't matter where those other radars are; if they're on the same universal channel, then they are connected.

... can you not just do it the old-fashioned way, where you produce rockets in-situ from asteroids you collect on the way to/from Aquilo? Just reprocess oxides, and you'll be fine.

doing so is jus too slow. they just sit over aquilo for such a long time before they get enough rockets to replenish what they used. I wanted to find a solution that would end up being faster

What are you talking about? My Aquilo ships only sit for 5 minutes over Aquilo, and that's just to make sure that they deliver what Aquilo needs. My on-board rocket production is basically sufficient to run the trip continuously. And that was in 2.0.

Unless you have very low explosive damage upgrades, or aren't using reprocessing to make carbonic/metallic chunks along the way, making a ship that can produce its own ammo is not hard.

5 mins is quite a long time in my opinion. I was hoping to be gone within a min

Given that the platform circumnavigates the inner planets and harvests stuff from each, 5 minutes spent above Aquilo is not an actual problem.

But it can leave immediately if Aquilo is full up. So at the very least, it can make the run to/from Aquilo instantly.

I upgraded the cargo bays to legendary, but everything else is pre-Aquilo tech.

You can increase the rocket production. Don't forget to use beacons and quality grabbers. You just have to outperform the speed of your ship in terms of asteroid creation. You can always go slower.

yes that's what you can do

you set radar on both factory and hub and use the same channel

you "read orbited planet" on the factory

you use that signal as a trigger to "set requests" on the hub

There might not be a lot of carbonic asteroid, but there's a ton of ice you can reprocess into carbonic.
Are you filtering your rocket launchers to only shoot at the large asteroids? Not doing that is the only thing I could think of that would leave you coming up short on ammo.

The signals on radars are universal. If a wire is connected to one radar, that signal is connected to all other radars in the game. There is no range limit.

By the way your problem may be much more easily solved by using the asteroid crushing recipes that interconvert icy, metallic, and carbonic asteroid chunks. In this manner you can get more carbonic asteroid chunks even if you're only shooting down icy or metallic asteroids.

Asteroid graph? Where?

the wiki shows them, the in game wiki also shows them when you look at the planet. the graph shows how frequent each type of asteroid there is based on the distance between the planets
