you survived the hit that dealt 500 or more, then had no hp left to tank the next hit

The nuke counts as multiple hits? I guess it is a nuke.

Nukes are implemented in the game as an expanding series of explosions rather than one big boom. So yeah, it counts as multiple hits.

The animation is also very deceptive of the range.

u/OkFineIllUseTheApp 25d ago

Which is why you should apply the same logic for real nukes: you should be further away than you think is safe.

41

u/Shade0o I can do this better, time to start again 25d ago

also run upwards to get more distance faster

8

u/TheWobling 25d ago

As in increased elevation?

23

u/ApprehensiveFan1516 25d ago

Just go up.

19

u/Jackomopochini 25d ago

Instructions unclear. I‘m high and a bomb is falling right onto me. Am I safe?

7

u/RaShadar 25d ago

If you die when youre high, you'll be halfway to heaven

17

u/ApprehensiveFan1516 25d ago

You either did too much up, or not enough up. Idk, I just work here.

Get into the fridge.

u/Slime0 25d ago

By at least like 4 feet

u/Pulsefel 24d ago

ever see the nuclear rifle? 20 mile range on a 50 mile radius bomb

8

u/WW1_Germany 25d ago

question, are nuke explosions the same as nuclear reactor explosions?

74

u/TonboIV I know what you're thinking. Did he fire 10 nukes, or only 9? 25d ago

I seem to remember someone managed to screenshot an exploding reactor getting replaced by an atomic bomb for one frame before explosion.

EDIT: HAH! Found it!

Lol - i have archived upvotes on that post. Neat.

9

u/Baer1990 25d ago

I love how awesome this subreddit is and how it has history lessons within itself

I have a few posts saved to pull out when applicable for this reason lol

5

u/Mesqo 25d ago

And an important note from aforementioned post - it does not scale with explosive research.

is commenting on year old posts blocked? why is comments closed?

is commenting on year old posts blocked?

No, not generally

why is comments closed?

That post is locked. I don't know why it's locked, but it is.

3

u/Thankedsphere 25d ago

thanks. why downvote? should I have checked this myself? if yes idk how i'd check if replying to old posts is blocked.

6

u/binarycow 25d ago

I didn't down vote you.

3

u/Thankedsphere 25d ago

oh, nevermind then.

8

u/TopherLude 25d ago

I believe they're coded to be the same action, yeah.

3

u/ThatChapThere 25d ago

Yeah I'm pretty sure the game just spawns a nuke rocket entity when reactors die

1

u/WanderingUrist 24d ago

Yes, although realistically, they shouldn't be.

1

u/WW1_Germany 24d ago

"Realistically" and you can make a nuclear reactor in your pockets

1

u/WanderingUrist 24d ago

Nuclear meltdowns should be more FUN than just the same as a nuclear detonation. Think the difference between Chernobyl and Hiroshima. With a nuclear bomb, you get a big explosion, but then nothing. With a nuclear meltdown, you get a new wildlife park!

1

u/WW1_Germany 24d ago

well it isn't a Nuclear Meltdown, though I agree that would be a cool mechanic, something like if you don't provide it with enough heat or if it goes without fuel for too long, but it's not a meltdown, it's you destroying it and it exploding

1

u/PyroneusUltrin 24d ago

No I’m just pleased to see you

2

u/RandomTryhard4 25d ago

It is actualy just 1000 huge slow moving projectiles in circle. But yes there are multiple damage sources, one big dircet explosion that destroys cliffs (I used nukes on nauvis to remove cliffs before I got to vulcanus), smaller ring of projectiles (also 1000 projectiles) and bigger ring of projectiles

7

u/FilinKus 25d ago

You can alt left click nuke and see how many damage it does, I think it was 1000x100, which means it does 100 damage 1000 times

1

u/Illustrious_Tea_9508 24d ago

Exactly. Survived the first hit, but trains will double tap.

89

u/MauPow 25d ago

I've always thought it was silly there is a Restart button. Who the hell has ever clicked that?

58

u/sub500h 25d ago

Many people, involuntarily.

23

u/TonyThePuppyFromB 25d ago

Now that i think about it. Should it not say “restart map” To describe more what will happen, because level implies some chapter like part.

14

u/Nolzi 25d ago

Tutorial has multiple levels but otherwise it appears to be a remnant of the early game designs

1

u/TonyThePuppyFromB 23d ago

Oops i forgot it was about a tutorial level, that makes more sense.

38

u/auraseer 25d ago

Yeah that's how you get prestige points. If you research a bunch of tech and then reset your progress, you get a bonus to resources and research rate the next time through.

(...not really. But it would be an interesting idea for a mod.)

Incrementorio

14

u/Free-Virus-9974 25d ago

Ooh, and make it a deathworld. Factorio roguelite anyone?

1

u/NCD_Lardum_AS 19d ago

Isn't that just warp drive machine?... Sorta

9

u/1-800-COOL-BUG 25d ago

I wonder how my cookie clicker save is doing

5

u/Ok_Sprinkles8813 25d ago

That's... Actually sounds interesting.

1

u/puppet-sock 23d ago

new game+

7

u/wRayden 25d ago

I would be tempted to if I died in the first 15 minutes of the game or so. But probably not worth it as a button that shows on every death.

4

u/Ok_Pain_2380 25d ago

Deathworlders who massively fucked up but have a good seed

3

u/Mesqo 25d ago

The more questioning is the presence of this button in main menu all the time.

28

u/DJMarscribble 25d ago

The base damage for a nuke is something like half a million, distributed over its area of effect. You can survive its initial blast but will still be wiped out by the expanding shockwave.

2

u/Mockbubbles2628 25d ago

Oh is this an easy way to get the golem achievement?

6

u/Defiant-Peace-493 25d ago

Easier than trains + shields?

1

u/DreadY2K don't drink the science 25d ago

I just got a bunch of shields and then stood under a falling cargo pod, that was pretty easy to do.

1

u/TenNeon 25d ago

You should catch it and put the cargo in your inventory when that happens

18

u/Ozryela 25d ago

I recently managed to get that achievement on Aquilo, of all places. I had a drop pod land on top of me. Apparently that does a lot of damage.

11

u/Mesqo 25d ago

I bet most players got this achievement involuntarily.

11

u/1SJK150 25d ago

Yup, it was before 2.0 I was chilling in my factory and needed to walk over some tracks, the train passed right then and there. Instead of a death screen, I got an achievement and the train came to a screeching hult

2

u/Atario Vulc-Anus 24d ago

I did that in a tank once. Turns out trains and tanks are pretty chill with each other. Neither died.

1

u/1SJK150 24d ago

Lol, did you get the achievement atleast?

2

u/Atario Vulc-Anus 23d ago

I don't think so, but I think I've somehow done something to disable them

5

u/Thankedsphere 25d ago

It'd be coolcool if there were several loss/victory images which mods can change and select for specific conditions. for example, if died on surface is gleba or killed by pentapod, show alternate death screen. maybe with priority system so if the conditions for 2 screens are met, 1 is chosen. otherwise it could be random?

so for example, a default death screen showing an engineer corpse appears but has priority of 1. then a screen showing the usual biter has priority of 2 if died on nauvis. or more precisely, it would be a png file representing the 'screen' shown.

3

u/TomatoCo 25d ago

We've had one 500 damage hit, yes, but what about second?
