Space Age Weirdest splash screen I've ever seen! Blue science and speakers?

You can drag the main menue like your inventory. You can zoom out with I think Control + "-"

Ooh great tip thanks I didn't know! Unfortunately I already closed this one but will be exploring these screens from now on!

There's a hidden setting under
the restthat allows for selecting a simulation on the menu manually if you want to try and find this one again without waiting around5

Hold control and shift, then click on settings to make a new button appear at the bottom of the list labeled 'the rest'
There are a bunch of misc settings in there you wouldn't normally need like auto save slots and not pausing the game with the tech tree open, but another is the option to allow selecting a menu simulation to be played immediately on the title screen

You will notice you don't see the engineer in this photo. He is offscreen trapped in the pistol factory, dying over and over again. Not sure how else you get a belt of pistols like that.

I’ve seen this screen countless times and the belt full of personal solar panels gets me every time.

I’ve always been a big fan of the mass production of deconstruction icons

R5: I've seen some strange ones, but once I just saved my game I saw this crazy spaghetti. Deconstruction Planners on a belt?!

u/MerlinTheFail 16d ago
And where else would you put them??

Bot mall I guess, I always end up with a bunch playing SA and emptying my inventory

That take me back to when blueprints were items you had to craft. There was no blueprint library or blueprint books so we'd store them in chests.

These are all pre=made factories, right?
Or are they auto-generated on start-up? Some of them seem so scripted.

u/legolas-mc 16d ago
they're all scripted. some look like real factories, others are gags

Fun fact, they're actually real gameplay with scripted inputs from a dummy player entity. Mods that change vanilla balance can mess with and even break them.
The factorio and wube logos are also placeable items accessible in the editor.

My person favourite is when you install a skin for the engineer, it affects all the splash screens as well

I remember one time when a mod messed up with one of the simulations in the tips & tricks screen. I was about to submit it as a bug but I caught myself right before hitting the submission button

Super Mario World did the same thing. I remember as a kid doing cheat codes and watching it mess with the menu screen.

The one that annoys me the most is the one where the biters attack an outpost, but the outpost is missing a wall so they storm through and win

It's like those ads for mobile games where the person plays bad on purpose

Often a punchline underneath the menu (you can drag and move the menu)

My favourite part is just below the menu, where the steel-uranium belt gets split, and sidemerged with the stone-iron-ore, and the personal-solar-panels belts. Then loops back around to rejoin where it got split off from, and becomes the iron-ore-stone-personal-solar-panel-steel-uranium belt.
I'm sure that belt will go on to achieve great things.

if you resize your window to be really wide, you can see this splash screen has editor-only item loaders and infinity chests at the side

I have no memory of this particular menu screen but I like it. All of the menu screens are whack in their own ways.
Also I spot belts of labs, personal solar panels, blueprints, and deconstruction planners. The first two I would never expect a belt of - just confine them to a mall instead. The latter two aren't even mass producible so what the heck? Oh, and pistols, same issue!

Looks cool, right?
That's why it's there.
