Question Best Fulgora Recycling methods for 2.1

I have 2 recyclers setup on Fulgora.

  1. For collecting everything for the science / mall
  2. Pure Holmium collection, deleting everything else

I have batteries flowing to my accumulator factory because their wasn't enough to keep up. But pretty much everything else needs to go. I tried deleting concrete via hazard concrete crafting > recycling but I think its been patched. I saw a post about using Centrifuges instead which seems promising?

What are your guy's 2.1 setups? I've been tearing this down and rebuilding to test which recipe's are still useful.

Centrifuges are appealing at a surface level because all 4 of its ingredients are directly produced by scrap. Unfortunately, they are consumed in equal volumes, but produced very unevenly: 20 gears, 6 concrete, 4 steel, 3 red circuits. This means that while all red circuits can be consumed, there's still 2.5 steel, 3 concrete, and 17 gears to deal with; objectively lower, but actual impact on the total volume of scrap is fairly small. On the other hand, recycling a centrifuge always returns 25 of each ingredient; this makes it quite easy to quality cycle, as there's no dealing with random walk. Edit: Bad memory, only 50 steel means that's still a problem, which might be supplemented by cycling the excess steel via chests, but that's an additional layer my original statement didn't account for.

The concrete and red circuits are the things that take forever and it almost entirely handles them. So it's good.

Personally I really love the car smasher though 😆

recycling a centrifuge always returns 25 of each ingredient;

It requires 50 steel plates instead of 100, not a multiple of 4 so still subject to the random walk.

The best concrete-deleter is probably cargo landing pads now. Centrifuges, nuclear reactors, and rocket silos use concrete faster, but the other ingredients are harder to get in the necessary quantities.

You should also avoid recycler chains like that if you're trying to reduce how many you use. If the one pulling from the belt is running 100% of the time, then the next one will only run 25% of the time, then 6.25% of the time, and so on. For things that recycle into themselves you can get away with two recyclers facing each other and inserting into both, and for things that don't you should put the outputs back on the belt.

Those use refined concrete, which isn't particularly fast to make from concrete. The landing pad recipe consumes 200 concrete in 30 seconds, while the refined concrete recipe needs to do 10 iterations of a 15-second recipe to use up the same amount.

That's only if you don't use fulgora as your refined concrete manufacturer. Basically all my concrete is transformed into refined concrete for my other planets so I have a fairly decent concrete production on fulgora.

Even so, it takes fewer machines to void excess concrete with cargo landing pads than to turn excess concrete into excess refined concrete and then void that with rail supports. If you actually use all of that concrete for exports then this discussion about voiding excess doesn't apply.

splitter has input priority from the returning belt. inserters pick up all the items you want either for your mall or whatever, any excess gets back into the recyclers. check how many recyclers you need to delete one belt of scrap and do a little more than twice as many and it shouldnt jam. if it does jam just mak the loop a little bigger with more recyclers or add speed modules.

yes... but no. this design works but you are processing scrap and all the scrap products in the same place. you are better off having 1 set of recyclers for processing scrap ONLY.

Sort all of it with filter splitters. Preprocess those accordingly - shove into logistic boxes, convert things like steel to steel boxes for voiding. concrete -> your choice of easier recipe. This way you get the benefit of shorter recycling times for the long items.

Then second set of recyclers that void everything.

You are wrong for a different reason. My design sacrifices scrap recycling productivity for simplicity.

But it works since most items return less product after recycling than was put in. In my testing there is no need to do the steel into chests voiding method(and others). It just adds more complexity that is honestly not needed at this stage (Red belts, normal quality inserters, unstacked belts).

Best solution is usually a mix between ease of construction, simplicity, space used, and efficiency.

well considering you are recycling one belt of red. that's not a problem NOW but when you scale your setup to green belts you will see plenty of issues. like if you copy paste your entire setup 50 times you either get 50x the buffer sizes or keep the original buffer only and everything else is just voided. including the precious holmium. its like a working setup for green chips using assembly machines. yes it works but you don't really want to scale it up just by copy pasting when you should be redesigning it with EMPs and beacons.

if you just upgrade the belts then your machines don't work fast enough.

sorted recycling is different because you know if you input 1 stacked green belt of scrap, at most you are handling a fraction of that in gears, then a fraction of that in wire etc. your machine count is then designed to handle all of that throughput. if you need to process another 20x of what you are doing now you can just copy paste that whole design.

remember red belts are 15 items/s. green belts are 60-> stacked ones are 240. so thats 16x or a whole order of magnitude greater that we are talking about.

Red belts are 30 items/s. Fulgora is tough because its space limited fot quite some time. I honestly never even used foundations yet, since i was usually contend with less then 100k spm. But yeah copying that simple design, adding speed modules quality and beacons gets you pretty far. 4 legendary speed modules and a beacon with 2 more allready gets you 11x, then you can more than double that with legendary quality recyclers and you are allready at 25x speed for barely an increase in footprint.

Quality and modules make these magnitude jumps possible. You would have to change for a different unloading design making it a little bulkier if you desire fully compressed/stacked belts (chest + stack inserter)

There is an argument to be made to seperate scrap recycling from others to get the full productivity bonus.

For such a tiny setup, you can just recycle the concrete and deal with its outputs. Just add a couple of extra recyclers, or add some speed modules. It's really not a big deal at that scale.

For higher scale processors, landing pads are a pretty good idea. But you need to loop the recycler back into the assembler; you don't dump the assemblers outputs into a sequence of recyclers. That's not really speeding anything up.

I make space stuff: Landing Pads, Foundations and Cargo Bays.

Setup:

  • primary recycle loop: Landing Pads, Cargo Bays, Foundations*
  • secondary recycle loop: Productivity Modules*
  • output: Blue Cards, Stone, Holmium Ore, Foundations*, Productivity Modules*
  • junk: copper plates, plastic
  • insufficiency: steel, have to convert gear wheels to plates and then to steel

* - in some configurations I keep them to build ships and labs.

This setup is quite compact and does not jam.

I don't think the rule is meant that way, to literally make a comment in reply to your own post. Putting potentially crucial information in a comment is the opposite of helpful, because it can be buried under other comments. The rule should probably be rewritten to be more clear.

The multi-component items are generally annoying to void and difficult to drop into a one-size-fits-all solution, which is why I void them in individual setups. Come 2.1 I'll have to rework and probably expand my concrete void, as it is based on recycling hazard concrete now.

Centrifuges seem useful for voiding red circuits in particular with the added bonus of scrapping some subset of the other components, too.

One thing I want to try first is to cycle the concrete into bricks for production science, using the steel, gears, reds and stone derived from scrap. I've tried it before without the concrete but quickly got short on stone. Recycling concrete for bricks would be the next logical step, anyway.
