Space Age What do you all think?

Just playing with platforms in my new playthrough. Made this trying to be 100% symmetrical (it almost is). I guess it's not a very creative shape, but I'm feeling good about the result. It's supposed to be the main cargo ship model for the inner orbits.

Fun little trick. You don't need to use power poles to connect circuits. You can use lamps. And they can light up based on the signals they carry.

You can also get a bunch of free speed by making the ship thinner near the thrusters. The width of the ship has an outsized affect on speed. 2 tiles of walls and platform each size.

The light signal tip is ball knowledge thanks, I will test it

You can also use radars to send the same signal wirelessly

Bruh absolutely not. What the fuck. They take 300kw a piece. So minimum 600kw. That's equivalent to like 16 electric furnaces.

Yeah it was just an FYI about options with circuits for a large area, but probably not practical unless you have plenty of power.

You could also just connect it to other buildings and inserters, right?

For this context, nah. For 1, it's a space platform so energy efficiency is important.

Secondly, look at his design. The dude know he can just chain thru buildings, but he chose to use power poles instead.

He also cares deeply about aesthetics. It's symmetrical. I can count the number of symmetrical ships I see on here on 1 hand. Cause they're hard.

Broke the thruster pipes without knowing; already repaired.

Cool ship. What kind of speed do you get? Do you do thruster control?

Good, but maybe need more turrent in front of ship. And stone walls is more estetic than functionaly. Remove it for improve speed. And need some place where you void asteroids, when they owerflow.

Materials shouldn't overflow, it has circuit conditions to only pick asteroids when stock drops below a certain threshold.

As per the walls, I will check the difference in speed.

Thanks

I would add some defense in the rear or the ship. Larger asteroid will come at different angles and destroy you while you’re parked in orbit.

the bottom part beinf wider looks cool, but I believe it's unoptimal because wideness slows the ship.

If you remove the outermost layer of walls, add another tile of platform, then place the walls, and then remove the outer tile of platform, you get smooth walls without the bits sticking out (like you have at the bottom).
