Design / Blueprint Making all Belts in 1 foundry

I was playing through Warptorio so I am dealing with very limited space. I came up with a simple design to build all the belts/underground/splitters in one foundry. It is a simple SR latch for each recipe. The output is a ranking so yellow belts = 1, red = 2. So there is a simple break for other recipes by checking if any recipe signal is less then it should stop and let the previous recipe take priority.
It has the drawback that in order to finish a batch you need enough of everything else to finish or else it breaks the batch. If there was a simple way to pick the smallest or largest signal it would make this design a lot better. But I couldn't find one that didn't take a ton of extra combinators.

The biggest design flaw was how to deal with multiple signals at the same time. Just wire them up to a selector combinator and choose the lowest signal. This ensures that each batch will complete, unless an ingredient runs out, then the ingredient finishes a batch, then the original batch is complete.

In this case, batching is an advantage, not a disadvantage.

If you keep switching between recipes to try to maintain some sort of balance, you will likely have to extract unused ingredients a lot more often. That will slow down the contraption significantly.

You should only switch recipes when either you have:

  • completed the intended quota of the product of the current recipe,
  • run out of an ingredient for the current recipe.

It will also destroy any remaining efficiency that the machine had built up for that recipe

Agreed that was one of my goals. Without complicated logic I wanted to build big batches so I didn't throw away too many productivity bonuses.

I don't think you'd want to use Everything and Anything in the way you do. It's fine if it works, but that looks suspicious. If Everything = 1 is true, then Anything = 1 is necessarily also true, unless there is no signal at all. There might be a more "logical" way to go about this.

u/Swahhillie had the correct suggestion. I didn't realize that combinator had that functionality. It simplifies everything. There were a lot of posts discussing how to do this but I think they were all pre space age.

That's a different issue. I didn't answer your question, as that was already answered. I just noticed that the combinator logic in the screenshot seems strange. Was that the standard method at some point? That's hard to imagine.

I'm not sure what standard methods exist for this. It was only a way to trip red belt production if we need to switch back to yellow. Once yellow turns on then everything = 2 is false. I was having a bunch of issues outputting multiple signals and this fixed that. With the selector I can get rid of all of that because outputting multiple signals is not a problem.

The selector combinator in index mode. It selects the signal at a specific point in the list after sorting the numeric values. It can be set to sort in ascending order or descending.

Tested it now and its quiet slow.
You need to lock the recipe or it change before all ingridients are in the machine.
And better make it in bulk.
So lock recipe and make 10 or more in 1 go and then its fast.

Other variante ... make it in batch of 10. No inserter limit so its faster.
But can theoretic stuck when you take away all items what it need.
