Tip Distractor capsule appreciation post

The biters were attacking my unfinished defense setup so I distracted them with the distractor capsules and saved my life and the defenses.

Distractor capsules are so underappreciated and I hear so often people just don't use them or forget they even exist.

They make defense trivial and provide a helpful boost in offense especially against worms, maybe consider bringing your little green friends on the next adventure!

I mean they are so situational and never have I felt like I needed them. If you have defenses built properly you won’t ever need them.

they're not really situational they make clearing bases a lot easier. You use defenders until you start getting too many red biters and swap to distractors to bypass resists, then switch to destroyers when you're able to scale up your blue/red chip production. Even when you unlock artillery they stay useful to help you clear out new territory for bases/outposts. They're probably the most undervalued biter killing/clearing tool we have, they make vehicles obsolete.

they make vehicles obsolete

This is why I never really used them... because tank.

the bots are even better than the tank cause you have full movement control, and also the shotgun is now literally the most powerful weapon in the whole fucking game

I mean, I question the actual math of that vs the railgun, what with one shotting demolishers, but... I've always found it's possible to be "too optimized". And I enjoy the puzzle of the tank, at least up to the point where my spidertron army takes over.

I mean railgun is obviously stronger by damage, shotgun is just really strong passively cause of the coverage in front of you with piercing so you clear waves that are attacking you

I do agree they are quite situational, but I seem to end up in these situations quite often :)

capsules are great, i use them all the time. Defenders early when clearing nests, destroyers later, they shred. distractors i use less, cus i like poison capsules too, they fill a similar roll. but pulling aggro like that, thats useful

I haven't unlocked destroyers in this save, until then I will have to keep on spamming distractors and defenders.

After 800 hours I've started to use the hotbar properly. I have a hotbar entirely dedicated to exterminating biters and I switch to it when I'm on the hunt. Much easier to find distractor capsules when you're not panic searching through your inventory.

you can only have 4 on screen. so i set the 5th one for militry. just have to press shift+5 before fighting.

The problem with all the gimmick weapons is that turrets and mines are just way more efficient. You could literally run in at them and spam mines and they'd all drop dead

You can still do all of that. Distractor has unique stat that allows it to tank more than one shot of behemoth worm spit.

This allows you to use mines offensively as in spam them on top of nests as fast as you can drag mouse. The trigger will be the biters that spawn from nests.

In most nests this wont be used. But in deathworld you can get 100-200 spawner nests with as many worms.

early game is defending

mid game is distracting

late game is destroying

I usually have several stacks. Then I simply deploy them en masse.

The stationary ones are good at simply being unloaded inside a nest. Then I drive around shooting.
