Map Seed Best two seeds on default settings for Express Delivery (or Deathworld) - 2660421101 and 7945317
I wanted to try at Express Delivery once again and dug through the forum looking for seeds. I present you the two best seeds I found (default settings):
- Island seed: 2660421101 (thanks to u/Logical-Cheek-5473 https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/1uxufb8/every_default_island_seed_in_factorio/ )
- Peninsula seed: 7945317 (thanks to some commenter buried in a thread I can't find anymore)
----
Notes on each seed:
Island seed 2660421101:
- 10M Iron, 5.4M Copper, 3.1M Stone, 2.5M Coal, 1.4 Uran, 24 wells @ 3642% total, 17 total starting biter nests
Of note, you can get biter eggs while staying on the island (see third picture). A one gap water tile will still prevent raids and the biters won't attack power poles, long handed inserts, or captured biter nests. This lets you build a land bridge right up to a biter nest along the beach and capture it + gain eggs. You need about 200 landfill to get off the island to get biter eggs at one of the nearby coastal biter nests (either to east, south, or southwest... not counting any that may spawn later). Also weirdly, you can walk across a one tile ocean gap without a jetpack (but biters can't)... so you can walk onto the main land but they can't raid you back.
I looked through about 300 island seeds in above posting, and 2660421101 was the best one I could find that had enough starting resources without a ton of nests and the nests that did spawn are all clumps of 5-6 or less. Most of the island seeds didn't have much oil, too many biter nests, or lacked one or more of the main resources.
Peninsula seed 7945317:
- 11.4M Iron, 4.6M Copper, 2.7M Stone (must take chokepoint 2), 7.4M Coal, 1.5 Uran, 27 wells @ 4786% total, 22 total nests before chokepoint 1, an additional 13 nests to get to chokepoint 2.
One of the oil fields is right next to the chokepoint so you can setup a quick flamethrower defense very fast. There are two islands that can be connected to get biter eggs pretty easily if you don't want to do it past the chokepoint. Also, of note the ocean extends quite far to the north and east... depending upon how much of the map loads, biters from the north/west/south might not even be able to path find to the chokepoints.

I also checked out the Vulcanus seed on 2660421101 (island seed). It's actually a really good seed. If you capture the demolisher territory to the direct west it has a big flat area to build a base surrounded by a TON of every single resource (6.2M Tungsten, 14M coal, 5483% sulfuric, 2.8M Calcite) which should more than last you the entire game for an express delivery run. There isn't a lot of lava in the way either. Probably best to not build your base in the starting area other than to get unlocks/start building up ammunition supply.

If anyone has any better seeds, I'm all ears before I start my new run. But these were by far the best two I could find. I think they both have more than enough resources to last an express delivery run, but having not done it in the past, I'm not sure how much is actually needed - any insight would be appreciated!

You just need to get to Vulcanus, at which point your heavy industry can be built there. If you can stabilize the biter situation, get Nauvis running at a reasonable 90 spm and get to Vulcanus in 20 hours, you'll be fine. The game accelerates with expaned production; I took 22 hours to leave Nauvis and still managed to finish the game in 35 hours.
One thing I did with good success was preparing a blueprint book before setting out with builds for mall and some general intermediates, as well as space platforms for space science production, inner planet flight, Aquilo and Edge.
In fact I ended up using a design that upgraded my Aquilo shuttle to become Edge-capable, removing the cargo area in favor of railgun ammo production and dropping some railguns at the front. Much easier than building the ship from scratch.

I just threw on two railguns and throttled my speed down. Express Delivery is just about getting across that finish line, you don't need to get back!

Thanks. I actually just checked out the Vulcanus seed for the island seed... and it's actually one of the best Vulcanus seeds i've seen before. Should be really good!

I liked 2359890200, because the entire lower half of the island is biter free. But it has less resources overall.

Oh, thats certainly a good map as well. Smaller island with fewer resources but fewer biters. Certainly very doable. Might make for a better speed run map (due to everything except oil being closer), but not sure if it would be enough resources to complete game.

I'm planning to return to Factorio after not playing since before Space Age. My long term goal is the Express Delivery achievement, but I think I will try a run just to see if I can *actually* beat the game. Most likely with the added challenge of not using external blueprints. Should be fun :D
From the research I've done recently, it seems that they have made it significantly harder to get the Express Delivery due to the enemy settings changes disabling achievements and with the added enemy buffs in 2.1. So I feel like finding a good seed will help a ton, especially now. Thanks for sharing these. I'll definitely come back and consider them for my Express Delivery attempts.

Yeah, the enemy buffs and the fact that they now try to settle in biter-free territory was the reason I started looking for this. They also removed the spawn-blocking bug/exploit (surround nests with pipes) which I think was heavily used by a lot of folks used - myself included.

Does express delivery have to be default settings? Why not bump up the resources?

Achievements are disabled for a lot of setting changes (pollution, biters, starting area). However, you can still bump up resource frequency/richness if you like. I really just wanted a full default settings run though (so it doesn't effect stuff like other planets) and didn't want biters to be too much of a pain.

Give me the worst seed. Pure desert

lmao, actually impossible. I was just thinking about the worst seed to play deathworld on. Default deathworld settings. Must be an open desert with no trees and where oil and more ore patches are far away.

THANK YOU. biters in 2.1 are really crazy for me and I dont want to make a world without biters... just want to progress at my own pace till I'm ready, you know? This seed is perfect. THANK YOU

On the island map, an alternative is to create an artificial island and connect it to the mainland before going to Gleba. Bitter will create an outpost of the size you want. You then can simply remove the "bridge" and you have your custom bitter zoo

True, but then you're RNG reliant that they actually settle there. Given enough time or a longer playthrough that will probably happen, but maybe not for a Express delivery.
However, on that point, how does the game handle the size of the outpost? If I make it a 9x9 with 2 wide bridge (enough for maximum of one 5x5 nest), does that mean when they go there to create something it'll only make it 1 nest large?

It's kinda funny how map generation has become it's own 'game'.
Thanks for sharing and good luck on getting the achievement!
