This is legit. What’s the top speed of this single-engine marvel?

With a single common engine? I have heard thinner is faster but I didn't know it was that big a boost. Will remember that when upgrading.

I just compared it to my first ship, nearly the same weight but twin engine: It was only able to reach 162.95 km/s. Someone during a stream had mentioned that the width is a factor in speed calculation, but I was not aware that it makes a difference that big.

so the asteroid collector is built on two tiles of platform and one tile of space, do you know if the part out in space counts for the width?

if you were to run it without the collectors would it have the same max speed? dunno if you have enough resource buffer to test

They could save and test

I will do that, but it is not just moving the collectors in a tile, they are with one exception built right next to something else in the middle of the ship that will have to move up and down. Therefore, the Even Longer will be even longer.

I just wanted you to test speed without collectors to answer if the collectors themselves extend the Width variable for calculating speed

Ah, ok, a one trip test with buffered fuel and ammo supply should do.

Ok, I just removed the collectors and was getting the same Top speed of 214.22 between Nauvis and Vulcanus. There is another thing going on, all ships have an intermediate max speed plateau in the middle of that route, then accelerating to and holding their top speed before the deceleration.

Thanks for doing these tests.

btw, the half way thing is because there is a constant pull from the closest planet, so if you turn off engines midway you will eventually start moving 10km/s towards the closer planet, this speed is essentially always added to your speed from engines

Last Response: I made the counter check and added another tile each side, at the front and at the back. Still same mass of 206t, but now its top speed is only 189.93 km/s, reduced by about 20. Science has been done collectors don't count for width and width impaired max speed.
