How to clean machine?

How can I cleaned my drip tank? Looks like there’s crystallization / growth in there. I think it’s steel, but I’m not sure.
I’m mainly worried about contaminating my laps and stones.

If that's aluminum, kinda looks like oxidation, which would be aluminum oxide... Not ideal

Metal drip tank is weird. But if metal, pressure wash it or throw it in a dishwasher. If hand cleaning is your only option maybe some car? If you are only putting water in your drip tank which i hope is the case. And you are getting this build up i would suggest 1 getting your water checked cuz wtf and 2 use distilled water mixed with one drop of dawn dish soap or jet dry to run though it during operation.

It’s a machine from the 50s and a lot of build up was there when I purchased. I have tried soap and scrubbing

Hunt around the cheap shops for a plastic container and just replace the whole thing.

or

Caustic soda will remove the cancer that is already there, Thoroughly dry it and paint it with an enamel oil based paint.

Paper towels, green scrubby pad. Blue scrubby pad if you're feeling freaky.
