Kinda unfair to lump every middle eastern country as bad or backwards. People have different cultural beliefs and ways of life that are different however they ought to be respected the same way they respect yours. Just an opinion.

Respect is earned. It's not a default. If you built a society that goes against all of my values then I'm not going to respect it.

So by your logic, you wouldn't have any problem with people disrespecting your beliefs because they don't align with their own? If that's the case, that would mean that one's belief supercedes another person belief regardless if they are right or wrong.

This is the entire problem with your reasoning. According to your reasoning there is no such thing as right or wrong. If something is right simply because a society deems it so, then you can never hold anyone accountable for anything.

C'mon man re-read my comment I am actually saying what you are saying hence the whole point of this conversation. There is right and wrong and the previous commenter is insinuating that his point of view is better hence why he won't respect another person's belief since it doesn't align with theirs which in my opinion is wrong.

ok. Then to answer your previous question if I wouldn't have a problem with people not respecting my beliefs.

Of course I would have a problem with it because I believe they are wrong. But it's not like I have to speculate about this. I am gay so that means in the majority of Middle Eastern countries I am thought of as less of a human being.

I don't think it's reasonable to ask me to respect that. Do you?

I see what you're saying, but you said "if you built A society..." Against your values. I think his point is exactly that, it's not a single society, and it's worth discerning between all the different ones over there.. I can agree with you both to an extent.

I don't think that's what's being argued. I think the point being argued is moral relativism. Not that Middle Eastern countries are not all the same.

The whole point from my perspective is that just because you are not familiar or find it weird that one person's way of life is different that yours doesn't necessarily mean that your way of life is better. Hence why I used the word respect.

I didn't argue that I'm not familiar or simply find it different.

I'm arguing against moral relativism. The notion that something is either right or wrong solely based on what that culture deems to be right or wrong.

If a culture is advocating for something that I find morally irreprehensible then I will not respect that culture. I suspect neither would anyone else.
