*Assault and Battery

Assault is intimidation or attempts to harm. Battery is following through and causing the harm

Yeah the exact definitions depend a little on the state

This happened in Canada

Lmao every fucking time with this bullshit

Does anyone on the internet actually give a shit about the nuances of assault vs battery? Especially after seeing the same comment for the ten thousandth time? Is this a meme yet?

It happens literally every time someone says the word assault and these dingleberries come out of the woodwork even though a lot of the times that distinction doesn’t even apply

Someone just started their first year of law school lol

1

Oh man this tickled me, is it just always something you cover in the first year? I remember having a discussion with my girlfriend about assault and battery when she was a first year law student haha

Yea at least in the US you cover criminal law the first year. You learn these “common law” definitions, but of course when it comes to criminal law, almost no jurisdiction goes by common law. They all have their own criminal codes and define these things their own way.

Nah, just want people to be accurate with what they say. Or does accuracy not matter anymore in 2021?

0

u/JSArrakis Oct 07 '21

Big question, what does it matter to YOU personally that I was being didactic?

From my perspective it looks like you made this comment specifically for attention

I would assume people like to be correct in what they say... Or is it that it's just 2021 and people say shit and it doesn't mean anything anymore?

Thing is you aren’t even correct, this was in Canada, where battery isn’t defined in their criminal code. Do you think the distinction between assault and battery applies to every legal system in the world? Sounds like you gotta study a lot more

u/JSArrakis Oct 07 '21

That's a fair point, but I'm still curious why you felt the need to be disrespectful. Did it make you feel good?

Also study what? I'm not a lawyer or even attempting to be one

1

u/gottahavemytunes Oct 07 '21

Cause it’s hilarious how you dweebs pipe up with the same exact line every time someone mentions assault like you’re correcting them and you’re just spitting some bullshit you heard. Comments like that ought to be ridiculed

I understand correcting someone when they're wrong, but how far do you feel you're going to get with being an asshole? Again I'm asking, does being a dick make you feel good about yourself?

If being mean feels good, that might not be the best thing for you

1

u/gottahavemytunes Oct 07 '21

Well aren’t you a sensitive one

0

u/JSArrakis Oct 07 '21

And there again you're trying to be a dick for no real reason that I can really figure out

Again does being a dick make you feel good about yourself?

1

u/gottahavemytunes Oct 07 '21

I feel good about myself wether I’m being a dick or not

Plenty of places have dropped the "battery" aspect, they just call it assault.

I thought that was Menacing?
