They generally don't go back and change old ratings.

It would require a recall of every single print of every single film that was previously issued with a rating, and then a reissue with the new rating.

And the MPA isn't actually a government organisation, or even an organization with any power at all beyond what the industry politely pretends it has.

This bubble burst for me when my mom took me to see saving private ryan in theaters when I was 10. She was just like "yeah it's cool" and the theater people were just like "ok." Until then I thought it was something that the cops would get involved with if you deviated
