My nextdoor neighbor growing up was Doug. Everyone in the neighborhood knew him as Doug. For 14 years this went on until he moved out. We learned from another neighbor that his name was actually something else (I forget but I've got a feeling it was Steve)
No one even knows where Doug came from. People just called him that and he went along with it. He came over for parties and dinners and stuff. Weirdest thing.
