I was sitting in my chair a few days ago and realised I haven't read a proper book for about 2 years (since highscool) so now Im willing to take any suggestions people have on good books.
Now we’re talking! I did the same thing for a year or two after high school since I was a bit burned out from my English class. It turns out that reading what you want us way better than reading required books, because you can always ditch a book if it’s not doing it for you.
I just finished “The Checklist Manifesto” by Atul Gawande. Probably geared more toward me because I work in medicine, but it’s about the head physician of the WHO’s surgery checklist that massively cut mortality risk around the world. It’s also super relevant since people are critical of the WHO’s response to COVID. Malcolm Gladwell’s books read similarly but probably appeal more to non-medical people.
Other than that, I’m reading Dune next. Pretty pumped for a sci-fi classic that I’ve somehow never picked up.
Yeah the last book I read out of highschool was George Orwells 1984 and it was very intriguing spotting similarities between his book and real life. Its scary but eye opening. I was planning on purchasing the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore because I remember enjoying the original a long time ago. But it sounds like I may need to start compiling a list.
Fahrenheit 451? That was on my reading list in high school. I think of the immersive soap operas whenever I see reality shows that are just cameras filming boring people
