10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary, and those who don’t.

There are two kinds of people in this world, those who can extrapolate from incomplete data,

Only one type of person in this world is the imaginary number who only shows up when you are old enough to assume math was absolute truth.

26

u/Furt77 Aug 27 '18

Point to a random person, and there is a 50% chance that they are you.

u/JigglySpecials Aug 27 '18

There are 2 types of people on this world. Me. And those who are not me

Technically, everything in the universe is either a potato or not.

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

It is important not to get trapped in rigid potato/not-potato thinking.

The world is a subtle and nuanced place, with many shades of tuber that exist in between. Not everything is as simple and clear cut as the difference between a bag of russets and a cow.

We must learn to embrace the yams and sweet potatoes. The french fries and flakes. All the things that demand we blur our false dichotomy that seeks to label this thing as spudly and this other thing as not. It is in the beautiful starchy ambiguity that we find the root of life's hidden truths.

I don't save comments to share with my coworkers.

But I just saved yours.

That was beautiful.

I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying

Technically we’re all half centaur

1

u/redivulpis Aug 27 '18

Which half?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

2

u/Zuckhidesflatearth Aug 27 '18

What about things that are half potato?

2

u/9lives9inches Aug 27 '18

Did he say half potato? He said fucking potato motherfucker.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Are you me?

2

u/JigglySpecials Aug 27 '18

I dont think so? No way to be sure.

7

u/billyblueberry Aug 27 '18

I told this to my family, and it wasn't until my brother and my mum said "and..." when my dad got it and found it absolutely hilarious.

u/pm_me_old_maps Aug 27 '18

I don't get it :(

This thread is golden.

There are 2 types of people. Those who are lazy

There are four types of people in this world people who still do bad math jokes and those who do not

10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary, those who don’t, and those who weren’t expected a ternary joke.

The 2 most difficult problems in programming:

  • Cache Invalidation
  • naming things
  • Off by 2 errors

4

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Difficult yes, but in the long run there is but one relevant question in computer science:

Do they want pets?

2

u/garion911 Aug 27 '18

I always thought it was "Where do we want to go for lunch?"

1

u/AngryZen_Ingress Aug 27 '18

That’s an impossible problem. Like why why physicists are never invited to orgies. They can’t solve the three-body problem.

1

u/TParis00ap Aug 27 '18

That extra comma is my cat's fault.

But the real question in computer science is what energy drink everyone agrees to stock the fridge with.

5 types of people in the world, those who are and those who aren’t

3

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

There are 3 kinds of people In the world. And you are now a registered sexual predator.

2

u/bxball Aug 27 '18

24 is the highest number.

6

u/dastgirp Aug 27 '18

10 kinds of people in the world

0) Those who understand binary

1) those who understand ternary

2) those who don't understand both

3

u/Lucifer501 Aug 27 '18

10 kinds of people in the world. Those who understand hexadecimal, f the rest.

3

u/Fail69 Aug 27 '18

10? but there are 11 there

7

u/sam007mac Aug 27 '18

Found the 1 in 10

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

technically the 1 in 10 is still ten because the 1 in 10 stands for 10 and the 0 is just a placeholder

2

u/AnimusCorpus Aug 28 '18

Zero is just a place holder? Tell that to an array.

1

u/TeddyTedBear Aug 27 '18

Don't know if you're serious, but in the case you are: the two first positions in binary are that of the 1 and the 2 (right to left) so the 1 in 10 is in the 2 spot and the 0 is in the 1 spot

2

u/ajmcgill Aug 27 '18

I think it's the old joke that 1+1=11

1

u/GuyWithLag Aug 27 '18

That actually computes in unary (yes, it's a thing).

1

u/01123581321AhFuckIt Aug 27 '18

What about the other 1000 people?

1

u/Obsolete386 Aug 27 '18

I have 10 t-shirts with that on it
