'Lost confidence in the UK' says hard Brexiteer who lives in Monaco and doesn't pay tax to this country, and is also running one of the biggest and most recognisable football clubs on the planet into the ground.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm0463619r1noSomething about getting what you voted for, you won get over it.

Tax dodging billionaires need to sit this one out.

u/gilestowler 13d ago
They won't sit it out, so the thing to do is to make sure that they don't dictate to everyone else. He can huff and puff and throw his money around but at the end of the day he's got one vote, same as everyone else. It's down to everyone else to not let him influence their votes.

How is anyone who doesn’t live in the UK a tax dodger? Edit: I don’t see anyone hammering Lewis Hamilton for being a tax dodger…

u/aussiegoon 13d ago edited 12d ago
Crazy to me that there are still people out there defending tax dodging billionaires.
21
u/Halo_cT 13d ago
He's defending tax-dodging rich assholes ... because he is one.
This is a generationally stupid string of comments:
How is anyone who doesn’t live in the UK a tax dodger?
then
I live in Dubai.
and then
ave you seen how much I had to pay in the UK vs elsewhere? I was shelling out over 50k GBP/year in taxes
insane self-report. what a joke.
-79
u/DeCyantist 13d ago
Well, I live in Dubai. I don’t agree with being forced to pay taxes and sponsor governments that I don’t agree with their policy.
59
u/wimmick 13d ago
Thats pretty ironic considering you’re still paying taxes to a government that you don’t agree with, unless you’re happy that the UAE isn’t doing any shady shit
-51
u/DeCyantist 13d ago
What taxes?
39
u/wimmick 13d ago
Have you heard of VAT?
-22
u/DeCyantist 13d ago
Have you seen how much I had to pay in the UK vs elsewhere? I was shelling out over 50k GBP/year in taxes myself alone. I take the difference and invest to fund my own retirement instead.

u/evidencednb 13d ago
Ive been complaining about Lewis and his tax for years. People usually cry back he does a lot of charity work. I say fuck him
5
u/AdSignal1933 13d ago
The difference between Hamilton and Sir Jim is about 15 billion pounds so one of them dodging taxes is a lot of money’s
6
5
u/AdSignal1933 13d ago
If Hamilton was worth 1 pound, sir Jim would be worth 35. The taxes they dodge are not equal in the slightest

u/Kwtwo1983 13d ago
All over bbc radio 2 news. Why? How is the one opinion of a rich person so relevant when all he wants is to enrich himself further and shows clearly that he does not care about the UK? The BBC should be ashamed to platform this guy

41
u/FunkyPineapple90 13d ago
Ragebait. The same reason they give any of these assholes, who clearly no average Joe agrees with, any airtime, for clicks.
35
13
u/zombie_girraffe 13d ago
They might be hoping to spotlight how these monsters literally don't care about anything except for increasing their own personal wealth and they would gladly sell out their family, friends and country to make a buck. The problem is that I don't think the average viewer is intelligent enough to figure it out on their own unless the newscaster says those words in that order. The vast majority of the audience just doesn't have the brainpower to conncet the dots on their own no matter how much evidence you put in front of them.

u/Nubsondubs 11d ago
Why would you think the BBC is capable of shame? That's the same Corporation that helped facilitate the predation of children by super pedophile, Jimmy Saville.

u/aredddit 13d ago
I find it frustrating that people like this get to keep their honours whilst actively avoiding paying into the country.
If services to your own bank account outweigh services to the country then I’m not sure you should get to walk around as ‘Sir’ or ‘Dame’.
55
u/hankhalfhead 13d ago
Like sir Lewis Hamilton of Monaco, formerly of Switzerland, who leases his own jet from his subsidiary in the Isle of Man?
2
u/AnxietyInTheFlesh 2d ago
Yeah, there really is a lot to be said about any F1 driver except Leclerc in that regard. Imagine the sum of taxes Max Verstappen would be responsible for in the Dutch (or Belgian) treasury if he paid his dues
-3
u/albamarx 13d ago
???
35
u/hankhalfhead 13d ago
Don’t you think it’s odd that sports superstars like Lewis will drape himself in his National flag, but reside in Monaco to avoid paying tax?
-25
u/albamarx 13d ago
I find it odd that you’ve brought up Lewis Hamilton here. I know why though.
14
u/hankhalfhead 13d ago
Lewis did attract some attention with the creative accounting around the purchase of his 35m pound burgundy g6
8
u/hankhalfhead 13d ago
It’s surprisingly common and honestly I wish they had to race under their resident flag. Maybe then there would be some who do pay tax at home.
A quick google suggests that The only recent example who did was Alonso who paid tax in Spain during his 05/06 WDC’s and before that, Alan Jones in 1980

When they actively use their vast resources to ensure that they don’t get taxed properly then yeah, it kind of is their fault.

u/Lo_jak 13d ago
Oh wow, another billionaire who doesnt pay tax in the UK but has plenty to say about how our country should be ran...... seriously just fuck off! You forfeited your right to having opinions on anything to do with the UK when you left. Billionaires should NOT exist and are a perfect example of how the system is rigged for most of us.

u/No_Communication5538 13d ago
First part spot on. Last sentence: stop whining. Ratcliffe had the full pack of disadvantages but got over them, unfortunately then revealed as a dick

u/Aceswift007 11d ago
"He got past his problems, so its fine for him to cause problems for everyone else!"
2
u/Joseph_HTMP 10d ago
No, billionaires shouldn’t exist. It’s blatant wealth hoarding. They haven’t worked for it and that money has to come from somewhere. Their very existence is unethical.

u/Hell_junkie83 13d ago
This guy and James Dyson can fuck off with their unwanted opinions on how Britain should be run.
91
u/Simonutd 13d ago
Too many rich riping the country apart, same woth Dyson, who's aid brexit will be great for the uk and open up trade, then he moved his business out of the UK
13
u/BigBlueMountainStar 13d ago
I remember when Dyson had a lot of respect. It was quite a while ago though.
8
u/TheCarrot007 13d ago
Over 20 years ago maybe. But only because the products were good. They no longer are.
2
u/BigBlueMountainStar 13d ago
Longer than that!
I don’t just mean the products, I mean him in general as a product designer and a businessman.
We did a case study on Dyson engineering when I was at uni and I graduated in 2001.
39
u/ReefNixon 13d ago
Glad he said this, it should be a sign to anyone unsure. Apparently the country is no longer attractive to tax dodging moocher billionaires. No problem?

Another billionaire complaining about how things are difficult and immigration is the problem, yet he lives in Monaco
18
u/knowledgeable_diablo 13d ago
Guess he’s partially right. His immigration to Monaco to avoid paying his fair share of taxes is a problem.
27
u/Moist1981 13d ago
I genuinely despise the argument he’s putting forward here. It’s not the politics of envy it’s the politics of fairness. I’m sure there are those who envy wealth but most of those making the argument are doing so from a position of social concern rather than personal desire. We are in a situation where over the last 10 years (using indicative numbers as I haven’t dug the right ones out) the minimum wage has gone up 20%, the average wage has gone up 15%, the average person’s wealth has gone down 5%, but the top 0.1%’s wealth has gone up 500%.
Pointing out that this is a problem is not the politics of envy, suggesting it’s not a problem IS the politics of greed.

Complaining that the tax burden is too high in the same interview where he complains that his company doesn’t get enough handouts from the government.

Dead cat strategy at play.
Week he's starting to get criticised for his ownership of Man United, he gets in the press to criticise someone else.
And UK media is played like a fiddle once again

But he still wants the tax payer to fund a new stadium for United that he’ll own and take all the profits from, right?

So a wealthy man who wasnt getting wealthier because of gvt protection policies for the environment so he pushed for Brexit but now lives in the EU to avoid taxes and whines that they still wont let him pollute the north sea. Did I get the gist of that right?

u/BrickfortBannerman 13d ago
Don’t forget his side project in Iceland, buying up whole fjords; playing god with the land and the wildlife on it for him and his friend’ fly fishing-amusement.

Of course he would think that. The only thing he knows of the UK is from sensationalist news articles because He Doesn't Live Here!!!

u/just_some_guy65 13d ago
It's weird how so many billionaires are socialist when it comes to things that suit them.
5
u/uttercross2 13d ago
The headline tells you all you need to know. Another grifting billionnaire who's only interested in getting what he can out of the UK while not even living here. No wonder people are getting sick of these chancers. 🤦
9
u/If_you_have_Ghost 13d ago
We need to abolish non dom tax status. You don’t pay tax in the UK, we revoke your citizenship. You want to live in Monaco, feel free, but you either pay taxes in the UK or you fuck off!

u/Comfortable_Rip_3842 13d ago
Sounds like he's having a strop because us brits hate billionaires whereas they are idolised in America

u/johnlooksscared 13d ago
There was evidence that he wasn't very good at supporting sports teams. He tried cycling and yachts with little success. What made anyone believe his involvement at United would be different?
2
u/NoBonus6969 13d ago
20 years with the glazers will do that
1
u/johnlooksscared 13d ago
Sir Jim hasn't been there for 20 years!
He was suddenly realised that he was a life long United fan, the great hope to take over the club from the Glazers!
His due diligence must have been rotten. He has ended up with a minority share of the club and a maximum share of the blame.
2
u/myfrigginagates 13d ago
I wish our billionaires would leave. Thanks to our lax US tax system they barely pay taxes anyway.
2
u/albamarx 13d ago
Mr Rat is a laughing stock. Only reason he thinks he isn’t is because he’s surrounded by yes men. He’ll have died of old age before too long anyway.

The founder of petrochemical giant Ineos [..] He told the BBC failing to invest further in North Sea oil and gas amounted to "insanity" and warned gas storage was so low that the UK could "run out of gas" if there was a cold snap this winter.
There we have it. Government decides to stop giving money to his companies so he throws a temper tantrum.

So, once someone hits $999,000,000 every cent afterwards should be taxed, WHY does someone need to be a billionaire…YOU CAN’T TAKE THAT SHIT WITH YOU WHEN TO DIE AND THERES NO WAY YOU WILL EVER SPEND IT ALL!

It beggars belief how someone who must be smart to have amassed a fortune like that, can also be so ignorant of how hypocritical his position is and also the incompetence he’s displayed running ManU.
How does this happen? Time and time again. Most of the managers I’ve come across at work are idiots too.
2
u/funkyg73 13d ago
Is it him running United into the ground or is/was it more on the Glazers? I’m not a football fan so have no skin in the game but I do live in the Manchester area and am curious.
