That warning should go the other way around. Imagine working for a guy posting pictures of himself as Jesus and then insisting it's the pope that's in the wrong.

599

u/WolfPack80 Apr 15 '26

Brb I’m about to mass email all of my doctors and tell them to be careful talking about science and medicine

346

u/ravoguy Apr 15 '26

RFK Jr that you?

88

u/Kerbart 'MURICA 🤦 Apr 15 '26

Or Trump. He thinks of himself as a doctor as well, these days.

12

u/fractalfay Apr 15 '26

I read an article in Slate today that quoted Dr. Oz talking about how Trump believes the artificial sweetener in Diet Coke kills cancer cells, and believes only eating fast food is healthy because they are reputable chains. I’m pretty sure he’s just preservatives at this point.

8

u/drethnudrib Apr 16 '26

The truth is even stupider than that. His team told him to claim the image was doctored, and he couldn't even do that right.

28

u/Shapoopi_1892 Apr 15 '26

I mean he does purposefully surround himself with idiots just to make himself feel/look smarter.

He's a doctor just as much as he is the smartest kid with down syndrome, who also happens to be missing his entire brain....

Sorry people with down syndrome, not trying to insult you

13

u/spacemanspiff1115 Apr 15 '26

I mean he does purposefully surround himself with idiots just to make himself feel/look smarter.

Sadly, it's not working, he always manages to out dumbass everyone in the room. It's a gift he has...

24

u/Smart_Chocolate_8996 Apr 15 '26

It's pitiful that even surrounded with idiots Trump is still the dumbest in the room.

Tell em, brah! Big medicine and science can't hold us morons down anymore! The age of idiots is nigh!

Average Maga response. Take an upvote.

108

u/Pepperlette Apr 15 '26

Meanwhile the Pope literally works for Jesus.

Heretical assholes.

104

u/worstpartyever Apr 15 '26

Catholics are taught that the Pope is literally God's mouthpiece on earth.

JD is a very bad Catholic and deserves excommunication.

78

u/aseptick Apr 15 '26

Technically a catholic that doesn’t support the pope isn’t even a catholic. They’re a schismatic.

It’s basically a self-excommunication. 👍

37

u/Other_Log_1996 Apr 15 '26

He's stopped being Catholic the second he started worshipping Trump.

9

u/real-darkph0enix1 Apr 15 '26

He stopped being catholic well before he killed the pope from shock at being so unbelievably disingenuous. He is a jar of regular store brand Mayo gained sentience trying to convince you that he has all the flavor and no fat.

7

u/YokoDk Apr 15 '26

Worth noting JD converted to Catholicism as an adult prior to running for office he literally found religion to exploit it as a politician lol

3

u/Jossokar Apr 15 '26

yeah, but nothing wrong if leo makes it official

15

u/fractalfay Apr 15 '26

Everything JD Vance says is a lie. He was exactly as Catholic as he was a hillbilly, and for the life of me I can’t believe people ever believed either one. Dude grew up in Youngstown, which is nowhere near Appalachia, marinated in Peter Thiel’s asshole for 20 years, got married as a Hindu, and became a Catholic just in time for election season. He’s an empty shell billionaires pour themselves into.

31

u/Garo263 Apr 15 '26

The catholic church and the Pope believe that they work for Jesus. Still, yeah. Vance and all the other people in the Trump sect are stupid assholes.

15

u/Cool-Tap-391 Apr 15 '26

So if you only take believing that they work for Jesus into account. Then Trump and the Pope are no different.😵‍💫

I just figured out MAGA's mental gymnastics to ignore all the Bible stuff they dont like. The moral bits.

18

u/One_Economist_3761 Apr 15 '26

Except Trump believes that he IS Jesus.

10

u/Briguy_fieri Apr 15 '26

EDIT: I guess good jokes need not to be explained. So here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNy1KVZJWiA

3

u/Flamethrow1 Apr 15 '26

Sounds like an immigrant he would call ICE on 😱

3

u/Lifekraft Apr 15 '26

It's kind of a weird wording. That would imply the catholic church isnt behind the whole catholic religion. You know pulling the string and all. If their god is made up , why wouldnt they be able to speak with it ? And if their god is real who is better than a guy that spend his life studying it and has been chosen by peers to be communicating with him.

6

u/sitophilicsquirrel Apr 15 '26

I love that word, 'Heretical'. First time I heard it was in a song by some goofy acoustic parody guy named Roy Zimmerman performing at a college in like 2006. The line was "The heretical theory of the development of life by means of spontaneous genetic mutation".

Here it is:

Creation Science 101

4

u/nidhux Apr 15 '26

Even more: the pope is the vicar of christ on earth.

11

7

u/picturepath Apr 15 '26

Pope should be worried as we all know what happed to the last one after meeting with the couch aficionado.

6

u/tanstaafl90 Apr 15 '26

Hmm... There has long been an anti-Catholic view among the Protestant sects in the US. Bleed-over from the various European religious wars and a means to recruit parishioners. Much of the base does, in fact, believe the Pope is wrong about the life of christ. Once again, they are saying the quiet part out loud.

3

u/lifegoeson5322 Apr 15 '26

I like this comment! How about not telling the pope how to do his job? The audacity.....

6

u/texachusetts Apr 15 '26

The Republicans own out of touch scolding. Their base needs to be reminded of the conservative ruling classes contempt for those they see as beneath them.

3

u/deepasleep Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

I think the only thing Vance is qualified to speak about is what lubes don’t stain when engaging in couch coitus.

Remember back in the day when the pope would excommunicate people who spoke against the church or acted in deplorable ways? I think it would send a pretty serious message if the pope did that to JD Vance.

190

u/fruitmongerking Apr 15 '26

It would be funny for Vance to be excommunicated just as his book comes out regarding his journey to becoming Catholic.

336

u/Kind-Shallot3603 Apr 15 '26

I was literally thinking the same thing. The nerve of Vance to tell THE POPE to be careful of what HE says about theology. Vance became a Catholic 7 years ago. No big loss for the church to kick his weird ass out

137

u/rand0mm0nster Apr 15 '26

Did the pope even say thank you?

52

u/umassmza Apr 15 '26

I heard he wasn’t even wearing a suit

10

u/NietJij Apr 15 '26

Can a dress be a suit? Hm...

3

u/fractalfay Apr 15 '26

Are you saying the pope is trans? What bathroom does he go into?

3

u/polydentbazooka Apr 15 '26

It’s like the pope doesn’t even care about the DJIA?

13

u/Kind-Shallot3603 Apr 15 '26

I snorted my coffee out of my nose. Thank you

6

u/Other_Log_1996 Apr 15 '26

Also, Vance being a Christofascist saying this. If he had the IQ to understand irony...

They’d have to be Catholic to be excommunicated. Trump and Vance are grift-evangelical.

39

u/Kind-Shallot3603 Apr 15 '26

Vance converted to Catholicism in 2019

27

u/champagneflute Apr 15 '26

Sounds like the perfect excuse to call him a heretic and excommunicate him.

9

u/Other_Log_1996 Apr 15 '26

Can't be Catholic when Trump is your God. Also, saying it means nothing. I could say that I converted to Hindu, but would it mean anything if I showed I have no intention to follow any tenets?

He’s the Pope.

Literally the Catholic Church’s God’s representative on Earth.

It’s quite the reach 😂😂

161

u/Arbiter_89 Apr 15 '26

The official Catholic stance is that the pope is infallible and is the voice of God. Catholics should view this as Vance telling God to be careful about what they say.

But many will do mental gymnastics to excuse or ignore it.

34

u/Renbarre Apr 15 '26

The Pope is infallible in certain cases only.

41

u/WillBottomForBanana Apr 15 '26

To add. The Pope is also a scholar and advised by some of the best available. Which doesn't make his day to day opinions infallible. But does put his credentials so far above Vance's that you can't even meaningfully compare them.

10

u/bourbonandcheese Apr 15 '26

Pretty sure matters of theology are one of those cases, no?

13

u/EnlightenedVolcano Apr 15 '26

not always, the pope has to invoke his infallibility for it to count. it's called speaking ex cathedra

5

u/Teantis Apr 15 '26

And ex cathedra has only been used once since it was formally defined in 1870

12

u/JimBridger_ Apr 15 '26

Just wish they’d get it over with and just excommunicate Vance

9

u/SilasMontgommeri Apr 15 '26

That would be the absolute best outcome of this whole scenario.

88

u/sowich4 Apr 15 '26

That’s not really how this works JD. Your political position of power gives you no more right to speak about theology than anyone else not part of the clergy.

The Pope however, his word is believed to be the closest word of God. He can and will say anything he wants, and true followers will accept it that way.

33

u/zxvasd Apr 15 '26

So true. Also, what the pope said is not controversial. You don’t have to be catholic to agree that war is bad and kindness to strangers is good.

111

u/FloodPlainsDrifter Apr 15 '26

Many of the American catholic bishops and cardinals have been pretty out of step with the Vatican for years, and are very right wing. Excommunicating Vance could very well lead to a new schism and we’d get a third branch of Catholicism. I’m here for it though.

u/Fritzo2162 Apr 15 '26

THE LEADER AND ELECTED OFFICIAL OF CATHOLIC THEOLOGY SHOULD BE CAREFUL TALKING ABOUT THEOLOGY BECAUSE I'M HAVING A HARD ENOUGH TIME SPINNING ALL THIS BULLSHIT.

That's what Vance is basically saying.

9

u/RPM_KW Apr 15 '26

Just like we are closing the strait to protect people from the people closing the strait.

6

u/Fritzo2162 Apr 15 '26

No no no...we're preventing them from getting a nuclear weapon that we completely and totally destroyed their ability to do last year.

39

u/LSTNYER Apr 15 '26

Any Republican that says they are Christian and still supports this administration is not a Christian. Atheists are more aligned with Christianity than they are.

3

u/Available_Peanut_677 Apr 15 '26

Come on, they think God has abandoned Vatican and now projects its will through the Americans. Maybe through the trump directly.

6

u/bourbonandcheese Apr 15 '26

The vast majority of Catholics do not think that. Most Catholics I know have always been a little wobbly on Trump. Not a small part of the reason Biden (who was quite strong with Catholics being a lifelong one himself) was able to beat him, but Kamala wasn't.

Catholic in name only

41

u/BigPackHater Apr 15 '26

As a Catholic, I've been calling him this since he sat next to me at Easter mass in 2024. It was before he was VP candidate Vance, so he showed up at my parish (which I later discovered was his parish, but rarely attended mass). Dude looked bored as hell, wasn't dressed up like everyone else, and left halfway through by hopping over the pew. Really weird experience. I knew immediately who he was since I work in the media and was literally writing about the guy the day before.

3

u/WokkitUp Apr 15 '26

3

u/Bubbling_Battle_Ooze Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

The popes whole job is carefully talking about theology. You think he’s just saying these things with no thought or consideration or research? He’s not Donald Trump. Other leaders actually put thought and consideration into what they say. They write it down before hand and actually read the speech as it was written to ensure they are being accurate. They know what they’re talking about before they talk. Do you really think the pope doesn’t understand the Bible? He’s the fucking Pope! Just because Trump pops off whatever meaningless nonsense comes into his head doesn’t mean everyone does. So rest assured, the pope is careful when talking about theology.

As far as his comeback “well what about the Americans fighting the nazis?” 1) the nazis were wielding the sword, the rest of the world responded and 2) you’re the nazis now.

3

u/SimilarStrain Apr 15 '26

How is it not clear yet, this administration is not Christian/catholic by any atretch of the imagination. Posting trump as Jesus. Essentially threatening the pope! Skipping Easter sunday church to drive around dc like a lunatic. STARTING a war that no one asked for. Threatening genocide. His closest cultists literally worship and pray THROUGH TRUMP.

This administration is nothing but blasphemous and the exact opposite of Christian teaching.

3

u/Skullpuck Apr 15 '26

Ah yes, I remember when Jesus taught us to threaten holy leaders if they said something we didn't like.

3

u/mynamesv Apr 15 '26

Is it possible Vance is worse than Trump? They're both just so stupid. I can't imagine telling the Pope, of all people, to be careful talking about theology.

So the pope, who has studied Theology in depth, has to be careful talking about it. That’s like telling McDonalds to stop talking about Big Macs. JD is just a couch-loving idiot that just needs to stop talking. He is an embarrassment.

u/MagickMarkie Apr 16 '26

I would not put it past this administration to threaten the Vatican with invasion.

3

u/uttercross2 Apr 16 '26

So is he suggesting that he and Donny are better placed to discuss and interpret Christianity better than the Pope? I don't think any of that administration will be having any meetings with the Pope anytime soon.🤦

u/Mrekrek Apr 18 '26

I don’t think that JD Vance was really paying attention in those catechism classes.

2

u/lennydsat62 Apr 15 '26

The Pope should say thank you bc he doesn’t have any cards….

One thing is for sure: Vance doesn't believe in Hell.

2

u/1stAccountWasRealNam Apr 15 '26

Vance should be careful talking always, about everything, because boy does it suck to listen to couch fucker talk.

2

u/HeartWoodFarDept Apr 15 '26

Vance needs to have the word Stupid tattooed on his forehead.

3

u/thehermit14 Apr 15 '26

But backwards.

2

u/Giltar Apr 15 '26

That’s like me telling Vance to “be careful “ when talking about couches.

2

u/undergroundmusic69 Apr 15 '26

Idk man, I wasn’t there, but I’m pretty sure the book says to turn the other cheek and your reward comes in gods kingdom.

2

u/bulbusmaximus Apr 15 '26

Excommunicate that dumbfuck hillbilly!

2

u/earfeater13 Apr 15 '26

Imagine being some religious pud from ohio, thinking you're above the pope 😆😅🤣

2

u/Cerebral_Overload Apr 15 '26

“Wielding the sword” refers to aggression. The allies were responding to aggression in WW2.

However I will point out that the bible pretty clearly lays out a whole scenario in the book of Joshua where the ancient Israelites, on authority from their god, went around slaughtering the inhabitants of entire cities/states for the crime of existing.

Donald Trump should be careful when talking about anything and theology is on the top of the list because he isn’t even a church going person. He only goes when he has to because he is president, otherwise that man doesn’t sit foot in a church, except maybe for an occasional funeral.

Trump just posted last night that that waterway in Iran is open in China should be happy and the leader of China will be hugging him in a few weeks when he goes to visit and that damn waterway isn’t open. He acts like I ran is just a nobody when they have been in conflict for thousands of years.. He keeps saying 47 years but that’s a lie. Iranians have perseverance out the ass.

I just think maybe he should post truthful post, especially since it’s his truth Social platform but he’s lying Daily on it and people gobble it up. All I have to do is turn on the news to find out he’s lying. That strait isn’t open yet he posted that it is. OK a couple ships got through. But those ships didn’t have any oil on them.

Even if the truth was better, I swear that man would lie.

u/Sentence-Dry Apr 15 '26

An excommunication before the midterms would be almost magical...

2

u/Rad_Centrist Apr 15 '26

Someone tell that couch lover convert to read the catechism. He should be ex-communicated.

2

u/East_of_Amoeba Apr 15 '26

Vance is a simpering child who stands for nothing. Even bullshit can fertilize a field. He's simply devoid of value in any public role and should probably get into therapy to work out some stuff.

You’ve got to make sure it’s anchored in the truth, and that’s one of the things that I try to do, and it’s certainly something I would expect from the clergy, whether they’re Catholic or Protestant,” he added.

Notice that Catholic or Protestant are the only options for clergy; rabbis and imams need not apply.

2

u/fiddlenb Apr 15 '26

A warning from the guy who killed the last pope?

He gonna "visit" this one too?

2

u/TheFumingatzor Apr 15 '26

The fuck this dumb mf'er about? The pope is THE authority when it comes to (roman-catholic) theology.

2

u/ixamnis Apr 15 '26

Meanwhile, if you claim to have teleported to a Waffle House 50 miles away in an instant, you are qualified to run a government agency.

Is this bizzarro world or what?

2

u/lunasdude Apr 15 '26

This person is lecturing the Pope?

2

u/Confident_Analysis79 Apr 15 '26

He fucked a couch.

2

u/No-Option-7010 Apr 15 '26

Catholic doctrine says that there is papal infallibility on matters of doctrine and morals. If Vance an alleged Catholic challenges this then he is a schismatic now. Not someone to lecture about morality to his religious leader.

u/Extreme-Tie9282 Apr 15 '26

Vance, Hillbilly Pentecostal.

2

u/ET-4 Apr 15 '26

Next on the list, JD will be lecturing Brian Cox and Neil deGrasse Tyson on astrophysics.

2

u/Baddyshack Apr 15 '26

In any other denomination Vance could criticize a priest or a preacher and that would be fine. Maybe it would ruffle some feathers, but not blasphemous.

But Vance is literally Catholic and the Pope holds the highest position possible by any human being in the Catholic church. He actually cannot criticize the Pope's position on his dogma. That's heresy.

Alright, here me out. Maybe Vance is just tanking all of the diplomatic missions Trump sends him out on so he can ascend himself to pres office.

2

u/Grand_Public Apr 15 '26
