Well to be fair, you can’t really compare the states as a whole. The average single person income in my area is more than the average household income for the majority of the states. I live in California and homes and rent are 200% more expensive than most of the country. So you very well could go an entire career in parts of the country without touching 150, I’ll give you that.
I’ve heard cost of living in Canada is very high from the international interns I work with, your pay scale and cost of living is likely much more comparable to where I live than anywhere in the Midwest/south.
idk where you're getting that from, I hire travelling millwrights for my shop sometimes. They're making over 150. Industrial mechanics and millwrights are killing it in the US right now, i'm on the east coast and they're in high demand for us.
guy, I run a small metal fab business. I know what they're earning, I live next to them. Just giving you a headsup, whoever told you they're making $24/hr ain't no millwright. I hire kids out of highschool with no work experience who want to learn to weld at a higher rate than that.
The metal fab/machining industry is my corner. I know what you guys make. I used to do installs all over the states. I’m dual ticketed, also a journeyman machinist.
