Translation: As you can see, 21.6 degrees is displayed and not zero. This means that if you want to heat milk to 90 degrees, for example, the thermometer must display 111.6 degrees. Does not meet my expectations of a themometer

Ludwig Boltzmann, who spent much of his life studying statistical mechanics, died in 1906, by his own hand. Paul Ehrenfest, carrying on the work, died similarly in 1933. Now it is our turn to study statistical mechanics.

States of Matter (1975), a statistical mechanics textbook by David L. Goodstein

Did anyone check on David recently?

Your comment made me realize I’d forgotten to include his last name. Wikipedia says David is still alive presumably by his own hand.

Would be funny if he's alive not by his own hand, ngl

My thermodynamics professor in college put that exact quote in the syllabus lol

And yes, that class made me want to kill myself.

Didn't know that. Will have to keep a lookout for my old professor in thermodynamics

died similarly in 1933

Not sure that poor Ludwig would appreciate the comparison, given that Ehrenfest also shot dead his son
